Pullup bar with weights?

Ok so I see this thing every time I go into the gym, but I never see anyone using it (Most people are using the bench, etc.). So I'm not sure what it is and what it is used for. I know most of you have seen it and probably use it though. It looks like a pullup bar that has these steps in front of it. You then place your knees on the pad and go down, pulling yourself up. I understand the whole concept of doing the pullups, however, what is with the additional weights that you can choose? Wouldn't adding weight to it defeat the purpose of doing the pullup? (Makes the pad that your knees are on come up easier I would think) Anyhow, just thought I would ask

The idea behind this is that not everyone can do a pullup lifting their entire body weight. this allows them to get an effective workout and work up to lifting their body weight.
there are also belts you can use to add weight when doing pull ups or dips also. basicilly, we all have to start somewhere, this machine will help those that are getting started and can't lift that much, or are just trying to burn out at the end of a workout yet can't burn out to their body weight, yet still allows them to target the same muscles.

That thing is called a "Gravitron" and the idea is that people can perfrom pull-ups with counter resistance (stack) working FOR them ratehr than against them.

Not rocketscience to figure that out.

Gravitronnnnnn weeeee, its fun and extremely motivational to do pull ups.

I wondered if the weights were for helping, but I wasn't quite sure...

Oh and for the smartass comment just above, this one isn't called a gravitron, so no, it isn't rocket science.
