Sleep!

I have been sleeping like crap lateley (sometimes 5 hrs, sometimes 7); and been lifting. Would I have grown more if I were to get 8 or more hrs of sleep?

Rest (and therefore sleep) is when your muscles actually grow. Sleep is pretty important to muscle gain, so I would venture to say yes -- though your muscles will repair over time anyway, so you'll probably grow just as much -- but more slowly than if you had gotten good rest.

Plus you function much better on a good night sleep, therefore lifting better. I've been on about 2 hours the last week. Ridiculous, I cannot fall asleep, sucks because you can really see the effects when working out. I'm burnt in about 20 minutes.

too much is also not good; it'll leave you feeling lethargic and groggy

an averagely 6 to 8 hours of sleep is enough to get proper recovery

if more sleep = bigger muscle than you'd be seeing bodybuilder sleeping the whole day

just experiment the hours of sleep you need that leaves you feeling good and active

I think my body has adjusted to not sleeping much and by not much i don't mean two hours a nite i mean more like 6 - 7 which is less than i need. Even over the easter break i'd wake up after about 7 hours sleep and not be able to get back asleep again. I've been the weights room on 5 hours sleep and that was rough considering i do my workouts in the afternoon after school i was about to fall asleep in the weights room which is VERY dangerous.

with sleep, you mean the time you actually SLEEP, not including the time you just lie in bed waiting to fall asleep?
if i go to bed at 11pm.. i often dont fall asleep until like 1am :(

hey the same for me too :)
my mind is like so active in the night and i need to read something to lull into sleep
in been so for the past two weeks; maybe since i've got used to sleeping late now

you dont know how lucky you are Tomahawk!
and yeah like you benny my mind is active :( i just lie awake thinking about all sorts of things.. and i have a hard time concentrating and emptying my mind of thoughts..
anyone know any tricks to sleep easier?

Heh, yeah, we call this "monkey mind" - when your mind's abuzz at night.

There are a few good tricks:
- Warm milk (actually works! lactate is a muscle relaxant)
- Exercise in the afternoon so you're cooled down by nightfall, but your body is physically tired
- Clear your mind before bed and "resign to sleep"
- Don't nap during the day
- Avoid caffeine/alcohol 4 hours before bedtime
- Keep clocks out of sight (checking the time often keeps people awake at night)
- Darken the room as much as possible (your body releases melatonin, the sleep hormone, when it darkens)
- Make a bedtime ritual (you can create your own pavlovian responses. Make a point of putting all your pajamas on, brushing your teeth, stretching, say a little reassurance to yourself, all in one go. Your mind will be trained to be sleepy after this!)

i heard that milk and citric drinks are not good for you at night, it can burn a whole in your stomach after time.

i heard engaging in deep breathing during afternoon hour release hormones that induce deep sleep in the night

I tried this last night and I slept 12 hours, as compared to about 6 total hours in the past 4 days.

I had a hard time falling alseep for about a week. I tried laying in bed last night and forcing myself not to move or open my eyes for a few minutes. I didn't fall asleep right away after that but when I did move around to find another comfortable position I was tired enough to fall asleep! Happy sleeping everyone!

you just lied still for a while then changed position? i change position all the time:p doesnt help me :(
