Lose muscle?

I herd this somewhere that if you run alot you lose muscle? I notice at my school none of the muscle guys are out there running more the slim skinny guys.

Well you figure...

You can workout with weights and get bulky and also be a good runner. Look at Basketball players, football, olympic sprinters, they are all muscle if anything. most of them work on leg speed rather than their upper body. But they also work on core because core is a help for speed.

quick answer is yes, yes you will, so it is generally a case of setting your goals, so what are your goals, if it running then the extra weight would just be a hinderance anyway.
If you want the long scientific answer i will get it for you, but basically the body brakes down the muscle for fuel when it has depleted it's other stores of preferable sources

Then make sure your diet is up to scratch and not lacking. Make sure you have a good bit of protein in there, you may want to use whey protein aswell if you are not already doing so. Also while running you make sure you are fueling your body, so maybe put soem glucose in your water

you can start to burn muscle for "fuel" if you run long.. there are ways of preventing this though. but im no expert:p

I heard that anything past 20 min will make you lose muscle. Of course it truly depends on how hard your body is working, and your body fat aswell. Like jsb said you need to get your protein for fuel.
