need some help

I have been trying to lose weight for sometime now. I eat 5-6 small meals a day, take 500 less calories than my body needs to maintain weight. I have lost about 12 pounds of fat, added some muscle and increased stamina. The other day was my birthday, i allowed myself to have a day of eating fun. I had a waffle with syrup for breakfast and a cupcake after my birthday dinner (which was a normal one of my weight loss meals). Then that night i had some drinks (about maybe 4-5 ounces of liquor). So i went over my daily allowence which is 1400 cal (high protien) to abut 2100 cal (ha high everything). Next day i didn't starve myself, i didnt over excerises, i just went back to my normal routine cause thats what they say you should do. Well the last few days i gained 4 pounds and its not just scale i mean i can see it too. I am beyond upset because one i worked really hard to lose those 4 pounds and yeah so maybe 1 or 2 is water or some other thing like that but its been a few days and it doesn't seem to be going back to normal.

Is it going to be like this my whole life, to where if i want just one day here or there ONCE EVERY FEW MONTHS, that i am going to have to spend a whole month getting back to where i was. It just doesn't seem right to me and honestly is making me want to give up a little. I still have weight to loss and i was stuck anyway, now i am higher and have to get back down to my stuck point. Basically i need to know why this happens. It takes 3500 calories for me to lose a pound by 700 extra ones to gain 4? I am not starving myself, eat really good, workout right, and this is what i get for one day. Something seems off here.

No, it will subside shortly.

You are probably just holding alot of water due to the cheat meals/drinks you had. Give it 3 or 4 days and make sure you drink a ton of water to excrete the excess water.

You'll be back to normal in no time.

I have always believed that "cheat days" were essential to a healthy diet. I eat a lot more than that sometimes on my "cheat days" (more like 2500 calories and I do them once a week rather than just on my birthday!) and I've never gained weight from it. I'm sure LV's right and it's just water retention. That is why weighing yourself all the time is BAD! :) I'm not sure I believe that you can see the extra 4 lb weight loss...I think it might be slightly in your head? I only say that because I used to be super conscious about weight gain too and I would IMAGINE that my legs looked fatter the day after eating something unhealthy.

Just my 2 cents.

SO I'm no expert but this is my thought......

You said you were stuck before your cheat day could it be that you need to change up your routine maybe adjust your diet a little to compensate for the plateau?

Like I said I'm no expert so maybe someone could give you better info but that seem like it would make sense to me.....

Don't lose hope. Cheat days are essential. I agree with what the others have posted. Your weight gain is probably nothing more than water retention. Just keep on going as usual and forget that scale.

Also, be sure you have adjusted your caloric intake to suit your new weight. Just like we need to change our fitness plan every once in a while, we need to change out nurition plan to be sure it meets our goals.

Stay committed. You deserve to be healthy and fit. You weight is not an indicator of your fitness :)
