How many reps to get ripped?

hey guys, just wondering if you were lookin to get ripped, is it best to do 3 sets of 15 reps, or is it best to do low reps? cheers

I'm no expert, but if I am not mistaken, higher reps at lower weight builds endurance and tones, lower reps at heavier weights builds size and strength.

Is this correct?

yes, for size a rep range of 8-12 is prefferable, and a relativly high volume of 30-40. that will put on muscle mass and make the muscles bigger, thus they will show better;)
so yes pestario you are kind of right:p but going very low on reps will build strenght much more than size;)

Diet is the most important factor in getting "ripped." As LV said, you can cut OR bulk working in the 8-12 rep scheme. It all depends on your diet. Good luck

You can't single out one parameter IE a rep range. Set/rep volume, intensity, frequency, excercise selection, diet, recovery etc

I use lots of different set/rep schemes. Its more interesting and it improves different strength quailites.

One thing alot of trainees forget is that bodybuilding is still a form of STRENGTH Training.

do people generally lose strength when cutting, coz if your on a low fat diet and watchin what you eat in order to keep fat to a minimum, dont you generally lose mass/size/strength/power?

Not if you know how to do it right you can cut fat very easily while losing little muscle if you have a healthy diet. I am in the process of cutting now and i have noticed almost no difference in my strength, however i have already lost 12 pounds.......

To get totally ripped you should do 50 reps every set.

where did you get that information? thats more like a cardio workout.. and yes:p you need cardio:p but as for str training..

Either he doesn't have much idea or he was joking. You never know with nobody

for goodness sakes, dont lower the poundages and do "cutting" exercises for tons of reps. while its good for the "brad pitt" look (low bodyfat percentage with no size or strength) its not productive for everyone else ;)

come september, i think thats what i'm going to do based off waterburys anti-bodybuilding program :)

Thats how I got into 10x3.
I love it and with only 60seconds between sets it can be very demanding.
I gave up on the program after a month cos I didnt like it, but I kept the 10x3 and applied it to my oly lifting program

manofkent.. 60 secs between sets.. wouldnt that be mainly for size? hyperthrophy (sp?) :p does that work with oly lifting too? and if you wait 60 secs or 4 mins does that really matter if you lift the same weight for the same reps anyway?
say:
10x3 with 50kg bench with 60 secs between sets. and the same with 4 mins between sets?
ive always heard 3-5 mins for str and below 2 for size. but i guess its just because 3-5 mins allow you to lift more since you are more rested, right?
so if you do a set ammout of weight anyways.. does then the time between sets really matter?
i guess what im asking is.. is it the TIME itself that matters? or is it just how well rested you are?

yeah its to do with how well rested you are.
doing 10 short sets is like doing interval training for your muscles. Its not the best for size, but it keeps you going. I'll dig up waterberrys artical if I can he can explane it better.

its called 10x3 workout, I think

yeah ok.. so if i do 10x3 with 60 sec between.. it wont be any difference.. exept that i get more size with shorter time than if i did it with 4 mins in between? i lift the same ammount, the 60 sec thing will probobly be harder though. i dont know if you get what i mean.. :S but i hope so:p
