Abs Question

I posted this under FAQ as well, but I figure this area gets more traffic.


Can you work abs every day? My current routine is involves weighted training after each gym workout (3 days/week) and sit ups at night on non-work out days. Will this overwork and tear down my ab muscles? Should I go every other day?

thanks for that advice. Because I've doing abs almost every day but the results are not that helping so far. I'm going to take days off in between
 
I currently do 150 situps each night, sometimes on the weekends i'll miss it, but I seem to be getting good results.

I'm gonna start doing weighted-incline situps and I imagine i'm going to do that every other day, with normal situps just to keep tone, and not really build muslce.

Most other muscles you will be using weights to strength train. With your Abs, usually not. If you can get the same intensity in your ab workouts as you can in your other workouts, then yes you need days of resting time. If you are just doing bodyweight exercises for your abs, they probably don't need that much resting time.
 
Hopefully when you are saying situps, you are not doing the traditional hands laced behind the head type. They are the least effective of any ab exercise, and put a strain on your neck. Better to go with 1/4 situps, crunches, reverse crunches, etc.

Ironicly... If you had read the bodybuilding FAQ you would already know the answer to your question.
 
Crazcarl is right (as well as pretty much everyone else). If you really want to rip your abs up, you will want to work your entire core HARD and thus will require 48 hours of rest to allow the muscle to repair. Otherwise, for light body-weight workouts, the core requires little downtime. Remember that you will hit a plateau very quickly doing light routines on your abs.

The sit ups I do are cross overs (left elbow to right knee, and vice versa). I do 4 sets of 15-20. While I feel it, it doesn't kill my abs like I do on my workout days. I just wanted to do em to maintain and keep away the bellyfat. So, if I do this routine on non-workout days, will it tear down the muscle?

If your doing sit-ups to keep the fat away, your barking up the wrong tree.....in a sense. Keeping fat away has more to do with cardio, eating, and working the large muscle groups in your body,( ex. legs, glutes). You can't "spot reduce" fat. Fat comes off your entire body as a whole when your body burns it due to a caloric deficit.
I work my abs once a week and use the ball while doing my chest and shoulder workouts. Its seems to be enough for me, but everyone is different.
