A highly aromatic herb, Fennel is native to the Mediterranean region and southwest Asia, from Morocco to Bulgaria. Dried fennel seed is a strong spice that is brown or green in color when fresh, and turns a dull grey as the seed ages.
It is a common ingredient in most spice powders, Italian sausages, and European rye breads.
In India, it is common to chew fennel seeds as a breathe freshener, and they can also be found in toothpastes. As far as medical uses, Fennel is used to treat chills and stomach problems.
