Growing up, I’ve always had a passion for being physical and active, and therefore channelled my energy into ways which would benefit me. I started out playing competitive football and training on the field and for me it went hand in hand with lifting weights in the gym. Training in the gym has truly changed my life, and I always look to branch my skills and talents into new things I haven’t experienced before, which ultimately lead me to fitness modeling. From fashion show runways to competing with the best in the fitness industry, my confidence and abilities have grown exponentially and today the drive is more alive than ever before. Where does your motivation come from? My motivation comes from the changes I see people making in their own lives, just by watching my videos. The feedback I receive is the most amazing feeling and keeps me driven when I know I have the ability to make a differe...

I got into fitness modeling a few years after i started training. I was working with a group of guys in New York called the City Gym Boys. We did calendars & went to different schools to promote fitness. After a few calendars & a couple of bodybuilding shows several magazines called me for a photo shoot     Where does your motivation come from? My motivation comes from wanting to be unstoppable! Period! When I decide to do something I want to be the best at it. In my opinion life is too short to be small & weak! To be the best you need to train like the best! My overall motivation is to be part of history & be compared with legends in the industry. Best of the best!       What workout routine has worked best for you? Over the years I have found that high rep workouts in the 12-15 rep range have worked well for me. This really breaks down the muscles and makes you grow....

While a full time student in law school, I began to notice that I had put on weight, even though I was going to the gym regularly, and that my eating habits were suffering. I attended my first NPC event in May 2010 which sparked my interest in competing. After seeing what it was all about, I decided to hire a trainer, Nicole Wilkins, and endure three months of contest prep to get me ready for my first show. In three months, I totally transformed my body and lost over 20 pounds. I accomplished this while also a full time law student. Ever since I hit that stage in September of 2010 there has been no looking back, I love it! Where does your motivation come from? When I first began my fitness journey my motivation came from wanting to succeed in this sport and also to become the happiest and healthiest “me” I could. Today, there is also another motiv...

IFBB Men's Physique Pro Ryan Hughes

Fitness.com chats with IFBB Men’s Physique Pro Ryan Hughes! How did you get started with men’s physique? I began competing as a bodybuilding at age 19. After two bodybuilding shows I was uncertain about the direction in which I wanted to take it. I was positive I didn’t want to be the size of today’s professional bodybuilders, but still loved to compete! Less than 6 months after my final bodybuilding show the Men’s Physique division came about and it was the perfect place for me! I competed once to qualify for Nationals and ended up winning my class at the first National Men’s Physique show to become of the first two IFBB Men’s Physique professionals!  Photo Copyright: Jeff Sygo Where does your motivation come from? Originally I aspired to the likes of Arnold and Cutler, but after adding muscle and pursing my own fitness journey my motivation now comes from within. I constantly strive to get better and beat my previous self. Whether it be on stage or in a photo shoot, I always strive to look better than I previously have. ...
