What's a good body fat %?

My question is just that...what's a good body fat % to aim for? I'm 10.4% at the moment, should i be lower for more muscle definition?

Thanks.

you are in the zone where doctors would call you "healthy" but if you want to see some more muscle you want to be down to about 7% any lower and you start pushing "unhealthy" body builders get down to about 2-4% for competitions but they also have their water intake and salt intake regulated so they know exactly how dehydrated they can be without passing out.

1-3% is essential fat % for males, so stay above that. If you can get near that low then you pretty much know what you're doing.

skin fold, the scales are thrown off by something as simple as surplus water in your body. and i like 5$ as apposed to 75$

Do you trust the Tanita BF scales to give you accurate values?
Or do you ppl rely on skin-fold measurements?

I'm using FatTrack II digital skin-fold calipers. They're great in that you pinch and it just tells you the fat % straight out without having to look at charts etc. but i don't know how to make good measurements yet.

Little things like, do you tense up to make sure you're just getting fat? Things like that make my readings vary from 7% to 12% at the moment

Tanita scales can be helpful tracking in-between caliper tests, but their results should be taken with a grain of salt.

Ideally, use the scale in the evening when you're fully hydrated, for the best bodyfat measure.

for males 8-10% is healthy and good looking, females with b-c cups are 14-16% is healthy and good looking. I think it will change a bit with cup size.
