Treadmill Mat

Hi all!

I purchased a treadmill about a month ago and I love using it! The only problem is this.. I live in an apartment complex of 6 units. My neighbour below me came upstairs yesterday and knocked on my door and complained about the noise while I was in the middle of a jog.

I make sure to use my treadmill at reasonable hours only but his wife says it's just too loud. Our apartment building is supposedely sound proofed and made out of concrete but it's driving her nuts so we compromised (sort of) and came to a conclusion that I could use it in the morning starting from 7:30am. She works from 6am-2pm so basically anytime within those hours.

I was interested in getting a mat before all this happened but now I'd really like to buy one as soon as possible.

Do any of you have recommendations? Sites I can buy a mat from? Stores? I would prefer a really good quality mat. I understand that it will not absorb all the sounds and vibrations but I would like it to help a bit.

Thanks a lot! :)

I'd find out what time they usually get up and start using it an hour before then.

They wont care if you use it in the afternoons after that.

Id say most good sports stores would sell them, I can imagine how loud this would be but come on, if your not going made and using it all day, you say you are using it at reasonable hours so i don't get what the prob is

I know..I told my neighbour this exact same thing. I've had problems with them since I moved in 3 years ago. They are very unreasonable when it comes to their demands.

I've had the police show up one night because my cat was playing in the living room with his toy and "making too much noise". Absolutely ridiculous.

I've complained to the landlord, I've written letters..but this just keeps happening and I guess I could ignore them or slam the door in their face when they come knock at my place but it's hard cause I'm just not that type of person. I really try to work with them and find a middle ground that we can both agree on but it just seems that it's always about them.

A lot of people I have spoken to about this most recent problem with the treadmill tell me "just ignore or tell them to get lost" I really don't know what to do anymore hehe..I obviously can't please them and at some point there's a limit to limits!

You are dealing with people who are very unhappy and miserable. They find small joy in making others miserable.

There is NOTHING you can do to appease them.

Get a treadmill mat and if they can't still hear it or sense its being used they will find something else.

Thanks Jeff :) I'd love to use it before they get up but that would require me to get up at 4:30am.. it's just a little too early for me heheh

I'm gonna get the mat today and use my treadmill in the morning...if they complain some more, there's nothing I can or will do.

Sheesh, I had an upstairs neighbor that, for some reason, picked 10 pm on Friday nights to vacuum, EVERY week. For some reason it amused me more than annoyed.

If your landlord isn't telling you to quiet down, and he/she is aware of the situation, there's really nothing you can do. I mean, come on! They called the cops on you because your CAT was playing in the living room with his toy? What was it, a chainsaw? Ridiculous.

Next time they complain tell 'em to bugger off. And tell your landlord again. Keep documentation of every time they harass you for 'making noise' that is reasonable. Cover your ass.

Also, you say you don't slam the door in their face because you're not 'that type of person'. What they are seeing you as is somebody easy to push around. Time to channel your inner bitch just enough to show them you are not to be bullied. Oh you can still be nice about it, but a little strategically applied assertion can go a long way. If it doesn't, then you just kick it up a bit.:reddevil:
