To Eat or Not to Eat...

before exercising. From everything I have read or heard, you're not supposed to eat for at least an hour before exercising. But, because I am a weirdo, I get a really sick feeling if I exercise empty. Is it okay that I eat right before? And, what would cause this sick feeling?

I think this is very much a personal choice. I *have* to eat something before I exercise. If I work out on an empty stomach, I get sick. I don't need much - even just drinking a V8 will help. I just need something.

Other people absolutely cannot eat beforehand or they get sick.

I think it's more important to get something into your body AFTER you workout, within the first 30 mins to 1 hour, and especially if you're lifting weights or doing any kind of strength training. It's after working out that your muscles need nutrients to begin the healing process.

thats a very odd thing to read and/or hear. when in any professional training guide it's recommended to eat before exercising. specially if it's intense, or competitive (sports). The reason you don't want to is foods that take a while to digest can sit in your stomach while exercising which can cause bad things like throwing up. but a good meal just over an hour or two before along with some easily digestible carbs right before like a bananna are perfectly fine.

it's personal preference I think.
Although most people I know/most fitness people I have worked with say it's best to eat a *liittle* something before very strenuous workouts (jogging, long distances, lengthy workouts) In the morning I would go for wholewheat toast with peanut butter and half a banana...or yogurt and granola. Something like that! To refuel after a very hard workout skim milk/almond milk/hemp milk with some protein powder!

You must not eat before exercise for 2 reasons.

1. You might puke
2. You'll only digest the food while you exercise but you won't be able to get rid of the stored fat in your body.

why not try to eat a candy before exercising. a little sugar intake will help.

1) True, but thats individual. Vast majority of people are fine. Like I said earlier, any competitive athlete is scarfing down food during competition.
2) False. just straight up false, body doesn't work this way.
3) Never eat candy for energy.

I think it depends solely on your reaction and as what you stated, you feel sick exercising with empty stomach(that's not being weirdo btw). I suggest you eat(lite) an hour before your gym so that your energy level would zoom up and fuels you throughout the exercise.

Everybody wants to , but only the most motivated, strong-willed, and updated to the latest breakthrough succeeds.

If I work out in the morning (which I like to do) I will eat a 1/3 of my breakfast before I workout like a banana or fiberone bar and then eat the rest of it cereal, banana, eggs, whatever afterward. I would never eat all of my breakfast before working out UGH! I'd have such an upset tummy.

I don't really have this issue any other time of day because if I couldn't work out in the morning, then I'd work out mid-morning and eat lunch afterward. And if I couldn't work out mid-morning then I'd work out in the late afternoon, before dinner. So in short, I suggest to never work out on a full stomach, just one with a little something in it :) but of course, it's not up to my body, it's up to your body.
