Thunder Thighs!

Ok, I'm sure there is already a thread about this, but I can't seem to find one.

My major problem area is my thighs... to me they are HUGE!

What can I do to get thinner thighs? What kind of exercise is most effective to lose thigh fat? I have read contridicting things in various articles and I would really like to know what has worked for some of you.

Help please!

From all I have read and seen, you can't spot reduce. All you can do is lose weight overall which will result in thinner thighs tho since those are your trouble spots they will be the last thing to go.

One can not reduce localized fat by doing a specific exercise in a specific area. The Human body simply doesn't work this way.

What can I do to get thinner thighs?

Go back in time and be born to different parents. Where you carry your weight is mostly genetic.

Gaining a bunch of weight, then losing it again, won't actually make your thighs thinner, but for me at least, it changed my perception of them. ;)

Wow, I just answered this question.

Same problem with me, but I'm male. I realized that i just had a lot of muscle mass down there covered in fat. That may not be true with you.

As people have been saying, we all have certain parts of our bodies that will store more fat than other places. It's genetic, but that doesn't mean that it won't go away.

I'd need to know EXACTLY what you're doing to give some specific suggestions, but right now my problem area is my lower back. I can see a two-pack with 13% bodyfat, but I just have a massive amount of a fat on my obliques and lower back. My strategy is basically to increase healthy fats and cycle carbs while increasing both interval cardio, and steady state cardio sessions.

I'll get back to you in a few weeks to see if that actually worked.

Hope this helps.

I also have a problem with my bum/thighs, as I'm more of a pear shaped person so store most of my excess fat there.

I'd agree with the advice that everyone else has given - that you need to lose weight overall and eventually it will come off your thighs. But have you thought about doing toning excercises? I've found doing sets of lunges and squats very helpful, and other excercises to tone the inner and outer thigh muscles (lying on your side and doing a scissor motion with your legs).

I also used to do pilates, and that lengthens and strenghtens the muslces, so I would recommend this also. I got the Darcey Bussell DVD, and just doing it in your living room means it's inexpensive and not too time consuming.

I'm giving you this advice, and now I need to take some of it myself after neglecting my excersise routine and putting on weight!

Hope this helps :)

I am genetically pear-shaped, as well. However, as my overall mass has been shrinking, it does seem that my HUGE butt & thighs are also decreasing!!! :hurray:This is very exciting! I still have about another 20 lbs to go, and just hope that the rest of the weight will drop right off my "problem area" as that is where the excess remains.

Best wishes on your journey,
ABBA
