ok help!! is it possible to lose 40lbs in 4-5 months in this way??

okayy... im new here... sort of... and I've been meaning to get started for a while now, but am not able to. I think I need some motivation... PLEASE

I'm a 20yr old female, 5'6", 154lbs right now. I want to get down to 114lbs in 4-5months. Is it possible if I follow this routine?

exercise(weekdays): 1500 times jump rope in the morning
1hr aerobics(+weights) in the evening
exercise(weekends): 1hr swimming

food: no junk, and everything in moderation

i know 114lbs might seem slightly underweight, but i know that i was looking and feeling my best at about 118lbs a few yrs back. some help would be great :)

.

Each body's weight reduction progress is different. For some, they can drop only 1 lbs a week (or 4 lbs a month) and for other folks, they can drop a dangerious 10 lbs per week (40 lbs per month). It all depends on many different factors. Such as one's age, current eating, exercise, stress, one's "genes", etc. etc. Many say that dropping 1.0 to 1.5 lbs per week (especially for females with delicate cycles and hormones) is a good rate to strive towards.

As a suggestion, don't set a specific "time bound" goal for youself. Simply set a total weight goal. One's goal could happen in 5 months or could be in 12 months. Exact time doesn't matter. As long as you keep striving to your goal every day (and getting monthly progress). "When" you reach your final goal really doesn't matter. As long as you do reach your final goal.

Works for me...

I like this advice a lot. I've been doing this a long time and invariably the people who ask questions like this (the kind where you ask can I lose X lbs in Y time?) never keep their weight off IF they lose it in the first place.

They focus so hard on the specific time period and do no "mental programming" for life after said time period and they invariably slip to old habits.

Simply set a total weight goal.

I find the same thing happen with weight goals that I do with time goals.

Weight is an effect, not a cause. It's much more productive to focus on causes than it is effects.

The scale means very little.

How you look and how you feel mean the world.

I've got to agree with Steve. Lifestyle changes should be more important than a mere change in the number you see on the scale. Even if you aren't as thin as you would like, it can mean the world if you go from being a lazy couch potato to a physically active citizen.

You should want to become healthier, not skinnier. Either way, it is definitely possible to lose that weight, but whether or not you can do it in that allotted time period all depends on your body.

Also, don't limit yourself to such a strict routine. Simply skipping rope will not let you lose 40lbs. Mornings are my favorite time to work out, and it should consist of a run as well.

Good luck. :)

I certainly wouldn't place too much emphasis on the time frame the weight's coming off- you may be setting yourself up for disappointment when there's nothing to feel disappointed about. A slow and steady weight loss is a healthy goal for yourself and if it takes longer then 4-5 months, then it does. It might be better to have a target "look" you're aiming for- something attainable that is healthy and that you feel comfortable with. Personally, I use the number on the scale as a guide, but not gospel. People wear weight differently, and you may want to consider that you're comparing yourself now to when you were 17. Three years may not seem like a lot of time, but for your age frame, it can be huge. I'd just take it one day at a time and don't focus on 4-5 months from now- focus on now :)

One doesn't need to jog, peddle bike, roller blade or do TM tasks to get their body into shape. Some of my friends cannot do these "fast paced" Cardio exercises either. Especially my disabled son. For them, they are very happy doing "on floor" exercises. With and without an exercise ball. re: Exercise ball and example video from one's local WallMark / K-Mart / Zellers type store.

For a list of exercises that might work on your specific body (and if approved by your doctor), surf entire page at:
Note: Click on the blue text string and video clip appears. I like doing "weighted Raised Calves" exercises myself. Especially when in an elevator and nobody can see me. And for hand weights, I use a can of soup in each hand (no kidding). This low cost exercise works for me too.

Hope these "on floor" exercises help your body as well...

hey all :) thanks loads for the advice... i know it makes a lot of sense... but in my case it doesn't, because if i don't have a deadline, i just don't do it!!
besides, my friend is getting married in 6 months, and since it's the first wedding of our generation(and a HUGE reunion of sorts) i do want to look as awesome as i can!! :D

so all i'm asking is... with this kind of routine... is it at all feasible to lose this kind of weight?? or am i being unrealistic? i do have a goal image in mind... and that image weighs around 115-118lbs :)
