love handles anyone?

following the thighs thread...I would like to enquire about losing my ginormous love handles...they are just terrible...and I actually realize that if I could just lose the love handles I would already look much much thinner..

what can I do to lose them?..is there some kind of exercize that would help minimize them? or is it one of those things there's nothing I can do about ? (I also had them when I was pretty thin) Help please! :(

Those damn love handles

Anyone has a serious problem with love hanldes..I mean I think mine are worse than most... even when I was thin I still had them...and they automatically make you look bigger...especially from the back....how can I get rid of them?.. do any of you have that problem? I hate them...and I know if I could only get rid of them it would make a world's difference (Well..maybe not that much but still)

My hubby swears that he has the biggest love handles:D I read that if you get a two weights for each hand, leave your arms hanging on each side anddrop from side to side.... make sence.. So basically tidsy tarter from side to side with the weights. but keep your your legs slightly bent... Hope that helps. Soryy for my missed spell words:D

I definitely have a love-handle problem!! I'm right there with ya! I absolutely hate it! And I know what you mean about having them even when you were thin because I'm 5'6, and I weigh 116, but I still can't seem to completely get rid of them. They're actually better (I hope anyway!) then they were when I first started losing weight, but they're still bad, and they make me look big still. Also, my stomach is pretty flat, but anytime I try on a bikini my love-handles hang over - it's so frustrating!!!

About the suggestion from jellybelly - I was working out one day at the gym, and this woman who works out there with me (who I must mention is BUFF and works out religiously) told me that doing those kind of exercises don't really help the problem. In fact, they can actually make them bigger because instead they add muscle there. She told me that they either have to go away through diet or surgery (great news, huh??). She said that they're probably genetic for me and other people who have the same problem. Ever since she told me that, though, I quite doing those exercises. They did get smaller from my diet, but I never found that the exercises helped. If you go to a gym you should ask them about it. Let me know what you find out!!

Booo to love handles. I've never really been *skinny* so I'm not sure if mine are going to stick around or come off with the weight...I hope it to be the latter but I somewhat doubt my luck :rolleyes: ... who knows, maybe they'll be in style for the fall..? ;;;Dreams;;;

im in the same boat as you!!! i have massive love handels.... unfortunitly... i cant find anything to get rid of them either :(

but if your 5'8 and 155 lbs... my guess is that you dont have as big love handles as you think you do!!!

Hi, I have a question. Can I post a link on this site? I found a video that adresses love handles that I think might be useful, can I post it here? Let me know!

Yes yes Cricket..post it please!.these babies have got to go!

perfection seeks..believe me I have big love handles..all my shirts never fit properly and never stay down, they keep rising up...and oh boy when I sit down...they just hang there over my jeans... :(

Hey guys..thanks for the answers..glad to know I'm not the only victim of love handles (although Jellybelly I'd have to challenge your husband to a love handle contest!) ..
so I found mixed answers regarding whether to exercize the area...some websites say no to exercize them as it'd make them bigger..others say exercizing them is the only way to lose them...hmm..me confused
any more responses are welcome!

I find that my love handles are shrinking as I lose weight. I am not trying anything special. I am just eating less and exercising more.

I found this video on line. Although the video is in Japanese, you can easily see what is being done. It says to do this ten times. I have started doing this this past week and I can really feel it. I hope this link works and that it will help you with your love handles. cricket

Hey, Hi, Well I only found that video this week so its only been a few days that I tried it, but I can really feel the muscles at my sides, they are sore, not alot, but feel like I have done something. I can only keep trying this along with doing yoga and walking on my treadmill. I just recently started back into exercising, about 15 days now and I lost 3 pounds but I really feel I am getting more toned. I figured it can't hurt adding the video exercise to my routine. I will see in 2 weeks if there is any real change. Good Luck!

My mom calls my love handles the Sappeli's curse...because everyone in my dad's family (the Sappeli) has them - they're all stick-thin yet they still have them!!

I HATE them...but what can a girl do...:(

i am a victim of the dreadful love-handles as well, but i have noticed that when i do lose weight, they do become smaller...they are annoying as h*ll though.

In weight loss, there is no such a thing as spot reduction. If you keep losing weight, the love handle will get smaller and smaller. For me, I lose about an inch on my waistline for every 5 pounds I lose. So, after I dropped 50 pounds, I love handle was dropped as well.

I would recommend sticking to a diet and exercise routine. Give it a little time. Everyone seems to have a "tough" spot that seems to be so hard to get rid of. But if you keep losing weight, the tough spot will be taken care of.

love handles and gut...

Does anyone know of any good exercises to start losing the fait in my love handles and gut? It would be greatly appreciated.

That stuff is usually there because of a pre-determined body shape, or else Beer! So, either cut the beer if you know that's the culprit, or try to tame what genetics has given you through cardio and strength training. Cardio will be the best bet to get rid of the fat, but if you work on some core strengthening moves, there will be more tone to the underlying muscles too!
The best move I know, one of my favourites, is to do crunches on a ball, curling up to one knee, back to center, and then up to the other knee. An advanced move is to do this with some weight- I use a dumbell over my head. Just be careful not to fall off the ball!

I do think that there are no specific exercises to lose your gut...but of course some ab work will help to strengthen those areas. The prime factor is of course losing weight...the fat in your gut will follow. Some people though lose more noticeable weight on other parts of the body first and some lose it in the gut first.

Keep off the beer! limit yourself 1-2 bottles a week to start with :)
