Hi there, not sure ive posted this in the correct category as im new hehe, anyway here's hoping :p

As a young teenager i struggled with my weight weighing 168lbs at my heaviest at 5ft0
Now as a young adult i have got my weight down to 112lbs at 5ft4 due to exersize.

I have been exercising for 10 weeks now every day nearly, for 30 Min's or more when i have time and i have lost 24lbs, which has gotten me to 112lbs.

The problem is, my legs are slim along with my arms etc but the thing that annoys me the most is my stomach. When im jogging my stomach looks like its moving up and down as if its water stuck there? i want it flat looking it sticks out a little but i dont understand as im now 112lbs i still have the stomach i hate, im losing weight with skipping ropes, doing things like hoping, jogging, running, star jumps etc, is 10 weeks enough time to tone my stomach up completely like i want it or should i give it more time?

Anyone any advise?
Thanks x

Hi Nikki. Welcome. :)

The thing about losing fat is that we don't really have any control over where it's lost. And the worst thing is that for a lot of people, belly fat is the absolute last bit of fat to leave. A lot of people have said that the last 5lbs have made a world of difference.

Also, some people - and especially women - are just genetically designed to have a little tummy. Remember that for thousands of years our bodies have been programmed to survive and reproduce. Women keep that extra little bit of padding in the belly as part of the reproductive cycle. It hasn't been until the last 60 or so years that the flat belly really became something that was considered attractive in women.

Ok, all of that said, when it comes to losing those last few pounds and leaning out your belly, WHAT you eat is really crucial. You need to make sure that you're eating healthy foods and a good amount of protein (aim for 1g of protein per pound of body weight). While you can't target weight loss, you can make sure that you're eating cleanly enough and healthily enough to move the process along.

What are you eating on a daily basis? And what kind of exercise are you doing?

i can answer that for ya already kara. her diet is healthy foods, zero fat and low protein. prob lowish on calories overall. Her exercise routine is all cardio with zero resistance training.. she might do some bodyweight type stuff for a gazillion reps, which is also basically just cardio.

what we have here imo is a cardio only loss. I do congratulate you on your weight loss, I really do. It's an amazing achievement for you to lose that weight. But what you're left with now is that lil extra fat that looks bad on you because in your efforts to lose all the fat, you've also stripped away all your muscle mass and left yourself looking smaller, yes, but still soft.

The key for you going forward will be to start doing some resistance training to harden yourself up a bit and make that last lil bit of fat fade away.

the best way to loose those is by doing a lot of cardio exercises, and eating healthy food like fruits and vegetables, less carbs more protein. stay out of soft drinks and juices and power drinks instead drink only water. plus exaggerate on doing crunches especially side crunches.

plus exaggerate on doing crunches especially side crunches.
Nope, sorry, thanks for playing.

Doing crunches will do nothing for tummy fat. Doing crunches works one specific set of abdominal muscles, which won't be visible as long as there's fat covering them.

Hi Kara, thanks for the welcome :p
And thanks for your reply. If i lost another 5lbs that would take me to around 7.6 stone or something isnt that a bit small for my height? I'm happy with my weight im just confused to why i have my stomach sticking out a little but like you said woman keep that extra little bit of padding in the belly area for babys, but im not sure its that to me its like actual fat there?

I would just like to say for the sake of jynus, i eat brown foods such as bread, i have brandflakes for breakfast. I eat cheese, nuts, pasta and fish now and then, eggs, i eat meat alot actually since there is no carbs in them and it doesnt affect my suger level... arnt those all high in protein? However i dont eat alot of fruit but i eat alot of veg with dinners, i love my salads and also im a type 1 diabetic and have been for 19 years i am now 21 years old so my diet cant be that bad as i need to keep my diet good in the first place however I do have a takeaway once a week. My calories can go from 1200 to 1800 depending on my exercising and what i have to eat that day. I do have binge eating days where i feel like i want everything sweet why is that?

Yes my exercise routine i would say is all cardio, i actually really enjoy it and im the sort of person that used to hate exercise i love walking and jogging running etc so your advice to me would be resistance training what exactly is resistance training? crunches?

I drink alot of diet coke around 2l a day without water may this be the reason?
Can i add in i have a line going down from my chest to my stomach from my exercises but my stomach still sticks out is this normal?

Thanks for all replys
Nikki

I do think that a little tummy is somewhat normal, to be honest. It really is largely genetic and women who have those ultra flat tummies have either put a lot of effort and diet into it - or they're genetically blessed. :)

I probably wouldn't suggest losing any more weight where you are, you're right. But you could add in some weight training and body resistance work and you could try tweaking your diet and seeing what happens. I suspect in order to get rid of the pudge, you're going to have to build some muscle, really get strict about what you eat (no more bingey days and add in a good amount of protein - about 1g per lb of bodyweight), and cut out the soda entirely.

Edited: I missed your question about resistance training. Crunches are a form of resistance training, but they're not effective by themselves - and in fact they're probably the least effective form of core exercise overall, IMO. When I talk about resistance training, I'm talking about a routine that works your whole body - things like squats, lunges, dips, pushups, chinups and pullups, planks, burpees ... all of those are things that you can do w/out a gym or buying weights.
