In need of help

Hello guys,

Just signed up to the forum as i've become particularly frustrated with my routine/progress of late.

Firstly i'm a 21 yo Male from Australia. I'm 165 pounds and 6 foot tall.

I've started going to the gym regularly and eating healthy for roughly 10 months now and whilst i've certainly noticed a difference in my body i was kind of hoping for more given what i'm putting in.

Essentially my goal is to reduce my body fat percentage so i can get abs and become a lot more toned and sculpted in my upper body in particular.

My current routine involves two days of cardio - cycling & treadmill, followed by a day of weight resistance training. I eat very healthy, lots of vegetables and chicken, tuna etc. and very little simple carbs and fatty foods.

Since i began traning i've noticed a reduction in fat around my stomach and even some definition appear but they're not yet abs and i'm finding it very hard to get the extra definition. My main worry is that i'm already quite 'skinny' and everyone always laughs when i say i'm trying to lose weight/fat but i feel i need to.

I'm thinking about adding more lifting days to my routine - one day on one day cardio but other than that i'm a bit stuck for ideas. :sad3:

Does anyone have any tips/advice?

Sorry for the short novel, thanks in advance,

Joe

My opinion;

It seems like you're trying to stay very lean and build muscle at the same time. It can certainly be done but it's not easy, especially as you likely have a fairly high metabolism as it is. What you may want to consider is building muscle and leaning separately. For example, spend a couple months keeping your intake high (of everything, protein, carbs, and fats in a healthy manner) and focusing on muscle building workout routines. You will put on some fat but you will also build muscle. Then, after this "bulking" phase you can spend a month or two on a cutting phase. Lower intake, lots of cardio, similar to what you've been doing.

This may be a more effective way for you to put on some mass and get to the definition you want.
