How does this sound?

Hi everyone. :seeya:

Like I wrote in the newcomer section, I'm 18, 5' 4'' and weigh 237 pounds.

I've only just this last week more or less decided to do something about my weight (get down to about 140), and me and my mum have got some things rolling. I just wanted some feedback on what you think of the activities I've started doing as I'm new to all this!

1. Changed my eating habits. Cheerios for breakfast with skimmed milk. Lunch and dinner consists of "Be good to yourself" ready meals or a combination of foods from the "Be good to yourself" range. (As well as generally healthy foods instead of junk.)

2. Have started swimming for 30-60 mins at least twice a week. One of these sessions includes a group 'water workout' arranged by the leisure centre.

3. Plan to do a hell of a lot more walking instead of taking the bus.

4. Aim to go on long bike rides.

5. Have ordered the Wii Fit for those busy days when I can't leave the house.

6. Am considering attending this thing called 'Ladypace' (I would post a link but haven't reached 15 posts yet :p), but would like to get some opinions from others on it.

So basically with all those options, I'm aiming to be doing at least 30 mins+ everyday, or a combination.

Am I going in the right direction? Thank you for your time guys. :blush5:

Doesnt sound like it's sustainable long term- I've no idea what a be good to yourself meal is -- but it sounds like a nutrisystem/jenny craig type program - very processed type foods

you're better off saving your money for a sexy new wardrobe and learn nutrition (start by reading the stickied threads in nutrition) and eat real foods that you can find anywhere..

there's also lots of planning and lots of aiming..what are you actually doing.. .as they say the road to hell is paved with good intentions.. the results are in the doing...

Goals should be SMART
Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Realistic
Timely

Change Plan to do a hell of a lot more walking instead of taking the bus.
to I will walk to xxx 3x a week instead of taking the bus.. and do it...

plan a reward when you do...

Hi thanks for your reply.

At the moment I have started the swimming, have changed my eating, and walk to work and back everyday instead of bus. When it gets a little less icey around where I live I'll be doing the cycling. I know the Wii Fit isn't going to help as much as other things but the more the merrier, right? :coolgleamA:

Sorry, I should have explained the Be Good To Yourself stuff. It's basically a range of foods from one of Britains leading supermarkets (Sainsbury's) with reduced calorific/fat content. It's not all ready meals, just generally lean meats and vegetables etc. :blush5:

I understand what your saying about it not neccesarily being sustainable, I've had thoughts about this too. For this reason I have an appointment with the nurse at my local surgery today to basically get some advice and speak to her about doing it in a sensible manner.

Again, thanks for your feedback. :seeya:

while i have a high regard for the medical profession - they are not always the best source of advice when it comes to weight loss -few of them get any more than the basics o f nutrition and will push towards a 1200 calorie a day diet.

There is A LOT of really good info on this forum -you're still quite young... and have a lot of decades left in you -- learn now so that when you're 70, 80 and 90 you'll be chasing after 25 year olds and catching them :D Learn now -and build new habits...
