HIIT Question

Hi guys, I had a question regarding HIIT.

I originally started doing my HIIT sessions by warming up for 5 minutes, and doing 15/60 sec intervals (15 sec. sprint followed by 60 second light jog).

The problem with this is that by the time I hit the 5th interval, my legs start feeling wobbly, so I decided to tweek this workout by doing 10/40 sec, but ended up staying at 10/50.

MY QUESTION IS, if I did 5/25 sec intervals, would that be same as doing 10/50 sec intervals? As long as I do this entire workout for a good 20 minutes, that should be fine right?

The reason I ask is because even 10/50 can get strenuous towards the end of my workout. I want to have consistent energy levels throughout my workout. Thanks guys!

wow 36 views and no responses?? = \

Well, I'm just gonna have to try this out later today and see if there is a difference in performance.

I doubt anyone has responded because this is a tough question. I have no idea if this would be possible. My intervals look more like 30/60, so I can't say I've had any success using shorter intervals. I would give it a go and see how exhausted you feel afterward. HIIT workouts are supposed to be pretty draining and hard on the body, so I would use how you feel after the workout as a gauge for the efficacy.

I don't have much to add but I am not so sure that you should have consistent levels of energy throughout an HITT session. I have been doing Tabata Intervals 1-2 a week. Those sessions are very short (4 minutes)but I always feel wiped at the end.

I totally agree.
If you're given' it 100% during your sprints there is no way that you will be going as hard at the end of the workout as you were at the start of the workout.

When I do HIIT on the stationary bike my first 30s sprint is at max level (25) and about 120-130 rpm. By the time I get to my 5th sprint I'm at level 16 and 110 rpm because that is, simply, all I can do.

Thanks for your responses guys! I felt that I'm cheating myself because I'm unable to go FULL FORCE by my 4th ~ 5th interval. I stop feeling the "burn" in my legs, and it seems like I'm now just using my strength to hold my body up while sprinting!

I'll see how things go. Was unable to run because I just got a root canal, and the thing THROBS like crazy when I run
