I am currently a physician who studied scientific journals regarding exercise, nutrition and the use of dietary supplementation for changing body composition. I have been off and on regarding workouts for the past 12 years. I have used various exercise equipment (Nordicflex gold, Bowflex, Total Gym, Total Trainer, Hammer Strength, Nautilus machines, Free weights, Power blocks and standard dumbells).
In 1993, I was 23% BF and using the combination of cardio and resistance training with a sensible diet, I dropped to 5% BF. I was able to maintain that for about 2 years. Internship was tough, and I went up to 10% and I let the reigns go on the strict diet.
In the past few 10 years, I have oscillated between 10-20% due to a recurrent ankle injury and outright laziness. I am currently 18% and want to drop back to 10% BF.
My major limitation is that I am unable to run (which was the major way for me to drop body fat quickly). I have considered getting an elliptical trainer to get as close to running as possible without exacerbating my ankle issues.
My current home gym equipment:
Door gym
Powerblocks 85 lbs each dumbell
Total trainer
