Full body and split workout

For the past while i've been doing a split workout
and recently i wanted to change things up so i started doing a full body workout for the past month which is doing me really good. To me the full body workout gives you a big pump and lets you work out each muscle group 3 times a week but on a split i fill like i'm concentrating on that one muscle group way more than a full body. What do you guys think of doing a full body workout one week and a split the next and just alternating them every week? I figured if you do this it will keep your muscles guessing and perhaps really, work do you guys think?

horrible idea. full body is only really effective for noobs. once you're actually able to lift, there is no possible way you can get enough rest moving the same body parts 3x a week. so a plit becomes needed. More important i'm sure is what your routine looks like. if it's lots of machines and isolation exercises like bicep curls and tri extensions, then thats the root of your problem, you're just on a horrible routine. Stick to doing the big compounds as the focus of your workout. squats, deads, lunges, bench, dips, military press, barbell rows, pull/chin ups, etc.

for full body, starting strength is required.

when you're ready for a split, Westside for skinny bastards 3 is one of the best imo.

once you've done the 2 for a year or two and have built a solid base from these excellent programs, then you can look at more individual muscle building to shore up weaknesses in look if thats what your after. but if your goal is general conditioning, strength and look, nothing will beat the above 2.

I still use full body routines and I'd consider myself advanced. It's just another training tool. It can't be judged good or bad (horrible) based solely on training frequency without taking into account things like volume and intensity.

fair point, i over generalized. horrible was too strong a word, but personally i still would not do full body one week and split the next.

how much do you weigh? i'm fairly sure you lost most of your strength since 2 years ago at 275 max.

if i were you.. i'd get a spotter, throw on 25's (95 lb total) - do a couple, see how it feels, then go from there.

I find it very comical when guys are like "yea.. i did this much several years ago".. and then they put too much weight on there and end up injuring themselves, and also look like a fool b/c their form is WAYYY off.

start over from scratch. put vvvvvvery little weight on there. i know it doesn't look impressive. SO WHAT! get your form down, and once you do that, then you can add weight accordingly
