Come on brotha and sista's lets show our strength for CCR!

I posted this to the COL; however, to bring in a more members to respond, I decided to post a new thread.

We have a respected and well known member in trouble. I hope he doesnt mind me trying to bring in the strength of unity and differing viewpoints in trying to help him in his time of need.

He posted this in the COL:

Hey buddy, I need your help :(
I got told I was being made redundant yesterday and I think it's only just hit me fully. I can't bring myself to eat and I feel scared, dizzy and sick. Finding a new job is proving hard because my motivation and sense of self worth has just hit a concrete floor

Is there any of your great motivational advice left to throw my way?

And I responded thus far with this:

We have a forum member in trouble. His troubles will have a direct impact on himself and his family.

He has real life pressure and needs support, and support is one of the main reasons this site exists.

For those that read the COL and may not have seen CCR's journal, I have taken the time to copy and paste several of his posts here to get others members who view the COL up to date on our friends trouble.

Give him wise and REAL tangible support and encouragement.

He are the posts:

March 12th:

I'm not going to able to do my arms day today :(

My girlfriend broke her foot yesterday so I stayed at home until about 8.30 to get her and my daughter comfortable and fed. Then at lunch I'm going home to get them something else to eat so I don't have any time for the gym

What I'll do is take the new schedule home with me and try to do as much as possible with dumbbells

March 14th:

I've had a really bad training week :(

On Wednesday and today I had to stay at home until late to get my girlfriend and Daughter up, and fed so I missed another morning session and yesterday I had an assesment day for this job I'm going for (I got through to the next stage) so I haven't trained since Tuesday!!

I'm going in at lunch time to get as much done as possible but I'm going to have to try and do something over the weekend

Any ideas Tony?

I was wondering, is a single leg iso squat a good idea or would is stress the knee joint too much?

March 17th:

I just lost my job

March 17th:

Yep, 8 weeks from now I'll have no source of income

I am going for another job anyway so hopefully I'll get that but being made redundant puts a hell of a lot more pressure on

March 17th:

There's a 4 week 'consultation period' where other options for employment within the company are considered and then if after that there's still no position for me then I'll be paid in lieu of notice and get my redundancy

March 17th:

Er, being the sole provider for a family of 4 and having no job in under 4 weeks time

Meanwhile, as I absorb your posts, and review some more, I will be making a rather lengthy post for you, CCR.

Come on brotha and sista's show your support for this fine young man.

Best regards,

Chillen

you have 8 weeks before you are without pay? obviously, you need to work hard this period on finding a solution. The more you work now with job interviews, etc, the less time you will have to spend without income. You need to prioritize, finding a job takes presidence over training. You need to stay strong and get your confidence back up, you still have time to act before it gets really bad.

Thoughtful of you to post this Chill, all i can say to big C is that its not the end of the world even tho it may feel like it!

Im sure you can help him with your motivational skillzzzzzz :)

CCR,

Been there about 5 years ago with a newborn baby at home. I am the main provider of income and health care for my family. I'm sure you have some marketable skills. Build from that foundation of skills you possess. Get on that resume and get it out. Its going to take some time. Follow up phone calls are key.

Whatever you do DO NOT get discouraged. A job search when you are unemployed can be very frustrating. Keep your confidence level up and once you get an interview you'll ace it.

I was laid off for 9 weeks last time and it seemed like I was getting no where with all the resumes I put out there. Unemployment covered the mortgage payment and I did odd jobs for cash to make ends meet. A buddy of mine owns a moving company so he would have me help out on a day to day basis.
I would take 1 day a week to really hammer the resumes and the rest to make calls, interview etc.

Use this time to relax, reflect, and keep your training going.

A job loss is something you cannot control. But it is not the end of the world. It always works out for the better. I got laid off from a dying company and I got hired into a really good one with a 10k a year payraise. You will do the same, just keep your chin up bud. If theres any resume or interview pointers you need feel free to ask.

Thanks Chillen, Karky and Kraken

As for training, I'm not really training properly. I'm going as a form of release but I'm not following my plan.

My problem at the moment is panic, there aren't many jobs available right now as more companies are cutting staff than recruiting; that also means they're paying less too. As I'm panicing so much I feel like I can't rest until I have a job and nobody seems as keen to employ me as I am to work for them :(

I guess it'll probably work out fine, the problem is that if it doesn't I have a hell of a lot to lose it's scaring the hell out of me and stopping me from functioning properly

stay positive man, I'm in Michigan the most hapless economic region in the world and I did it. You can do it but you gotta cut out the negativity.

Deep breath panic is counterproductive. Its gonna take time that I can promise you. You're going to look back on this in a few weeks and realize you are in a better position.

CCR all i can say is good luck man.

I know what its like being the sole provider with kids and no work. It`ll work out fine man and if you have to lay off training awhile then so be it.

Best wishes

CCR...where around do you live and what type of work do you do? Perhaps some of the other members are in your field or live in your area and might know of some opportunities? Keep your head up and recognize that your going to get another job and likely will end up making more money!

Sorry to hear about your ordeal. I've known what it's like to feel hopeless, but if you stay strong things have a way of working out.

How do you Brits say? Keep a stiff upper lip, mate!:)

Hey there,

Keep your head up and things will look up. I myself have had my job eliminated because of redundency when we were bought out by another company...twice!

Best of luck to you and keep us posted.

Any idea how many weeks of severance pay you're entitled to ?

Any idea how many weeks of health benefits may also be included in your severance package ?

Will your company provide outplacement services as part of your severance package ?

Do you have a labor lawyer / solicitor you can consult with prior to ' signing off ' on your severance package ?

Is a bonus part of your normal renumeration ?

CCR, I don't have to support anyone or anything, but I understand your frustration. Honestly, you have to make it work by doing whatever it is you need to do to get by. I think the most important thing to do right now is forget about the gym and all that. The most important thing is to get back on track with a steady source of income. Money makes things so much easier.

I would do the following in your case:
1) Compute how long I can last with my current savings.
2) I would consider returning recent purchases that I don't need but within the return date.
3) I would consider taking the bus for job interviews. Gas costs a lot and driving back and forth can cost a lot.
4) I would consider removing services that I don't need. Like cable, phone (if you have cell), gym, etc.
5) I would consider taking a temp job at retail, or fast food part time (like on weekends only, etc). Might make you feel hopeless, but that extra 100-200 dollars can help a lot.
6) I would consider another field to look for a job. If your current field of job causes you too much pain or trouble, look for a job in another field.

Hope that helps somewhat. Good luck.

Good points Kraken.

I'd only say that with respect to resumes, I would opt to have a very good resume writer draft one ......if it were me.

It's been my experience that most people who draft their own resume tend not to maximize and highlight their background nearly enough and as well as an objective third party can....but that's just me.

Just keep it together man. I'm a strong believer that things work out in the end, especially for good people like you. You will be fine, just don't let your worries get the best of you, and be proactive in making sure your life goes the way you want it to.

At the risk of being the only one that sounds like a jerk in this thread.

CCR, this is not that big of a deal. Get your game face on and get after it over the next 8 weeks. There are no problems without solutions. You just need to find your solution.

This is the type of thing that makes you a better, wiser, and more prepared person. Be glad it happened when you are young and not when you were 50 years old like some people.

If you master this part of life and become skilled at adapting to change, you will have a great life.

Learn from and enjoy the challenges and learning experiences ahead.
