Can an ab workout give you a BIGGER stomach?

I'm afraid to incorporate this 8-minute ab workout into my daily routine because I heard that if you're not "skinny" to begin with the muscle will start to form UNDER the layers of fat and...give you inches/make your stomach bigger.

I have an average quality stomach with flab...And I'm trying to lose inches, not gain them through ab muscle growth...Should I do it still? Will it give me a bigger stomach?

Help please?

Muscles either grow or they don't. What were you hoping to get out of the routine?

I wanted a flat stomach, of course...Or a flatter one, at least...

But I've heard that doing ab exercises causes muscle to grow underneath all the layers of fat, which therefore looks like a "bigger" stomach in the end...Because all the fat layers have yet to be gone?

I haven't heard anything like that. I do ab crunches every day and I've lost 7 inches off my waist since late August. I don't think the ab crunches alone are responsible; all they are doing is strengthening those muscles. They are not getting bigger. The reduction in my waist size is due to fat loss. However, I'd like the muscles underneath to look nice once I lose enough flab for them to be seen.

To answer your question, your abs aren't going to get huge, especially when dieting. Adding muscle generally requires a caloric surplus.

That said, I wouldn't spend a ton of time on crunches though.

Possible but unlikely

I've seen strength competitions in which the men had a huge stomach but with six pack abs. Their muscles grew substantially so that their belly bulged out. However, it's unlikely to happen to you. It takes a massive muscle growth. And these guys eat a lot and are built big to begin with.
