Bored with Weights

I've been reading these forums for a while now, but this is my first message :)

I started my weight loss journey about 10 weeks ago, have gone from 61kgs (134) to 55 kgs (121). My goal weight was 55, but now I'm here, I think I want to get to 53 or so.

Anyways ! I've been alternating between walking and running 4-5 times a week and also doing weight training (using dumbbells at home) 2-3 times a week.

My problem is, I am SOOOOO bored with the weight training. Every time I know I have to do it, I dread it and wish it was over before it has even begun. I enjoyed it when I started it 8 or so weeks ago and really want to keep doing weight training as I think it's important. I have gone from 3kg dumbbells to 4kg ones and can see myself getting to 5kg ones soon.

I guess I could change the exercises I do, but I think I am doing the ones I should be doing - so don't want to NOT do them, but don't want to do them either.

I should possibly just suck it up and get on with it and chances are I will, but I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to make myself more motivated, or anything I can do to enjoy the training a bit more ?

Thanks !

Maybe you are just ready to move on to a new challenge? It may be time to invest in joining a gym or some new equipment? I understand your feelings but if you lose the results of all your hard work would like the reason to be: "I got bored"

You have a few alternatives, which all basically narrow down to stepping it up :)

You should try and change your exercises and the wight you're lifting at lest every 6 weeks. Also if you take into account the main muscle groups you need to exercise, and your goal, then you could very easily just plugin different exercise types and create variety. I will presume you want to tone up and get some definition (pls correct me if I'm wrong).

So your muscle groups (very simplistically put) will be:

Chest
Back
Shoulders
Biceps
Triceps
Quads
Hamstrings
Glutes
Calves

You could choose to split this into two separate workouts or you could do the whole lot in one workout combining supersets and compound movements.

Again, it very much depends on your personal goals.

Then, add body weight type exercises, instead of your dumbells. You could also use KettleBells, or do compound exercises. There are resistance bands and balance balls...

If you do a search on the forum or indeed the internet - you will find some really good and worthwhile programs.

There are so many ways to progress your resistance training. You just have to decide which way to go.
