Biking

Every other day, i go biking through forest paths and quite commonly run into pretty inclined hills that require high intensity pendalling

since this is such as heavy cardio, should i drink a protein shake during the workout to prevent muscle loss?
 
drinking protein during your exercise will not prevent muscle loss. If you are concerned about muscle loss, just take it easy on the cardio.
 
Doing cardio you will suffer muscle loss anyway. but if your trying to bulk up you should be following a high protien diet everyday.
food is better than protien shakes, but ether way you should be getting you protien every day, bikeing, weight lifting or resting.
