Best Protein Shake for Bulking?

I've been skimming the archives on the forum and I've read a lot of threads about protein shakes but there doesn't seem to be a lot of consensus on a best protein shake for bulking up. Whey seems to be recommended a lot so I tried 'Whey Gourmet' and it tastes alright. I'm almost done the bottle and I'm looking around for a new one just for some variety.

I'm curious as to what you guys use. I'm not interested in the shakes with creatine, steroids in them though. Just the pure protein shakes for me.

I'm interested in hearing from the big guys on here who have had a lot of experience with protein shakes.

P.S. I know this topic has been discussed to death on these boards but most of the protein threads are dead so I figured I'd create a new one.

Thanks for listening!

You don't need shakes for bulking.

However, if you're having trouble getting adequate calories in to fuel growth, I'd suggest one of the more calorically dense shakes such as Muscle Milk or the like.

Bulking or cutting, I stick with ON Whey shakes. I enjoy all their flavors.

Besides ON, which Steve already mentioned, I like trueprotein. They are by far my favorite. (But allow a long-ass time for delivery, if you're not living in the US.) I get the complete milk dairy isolate, which is 80% casein and 20% whey, but a bit pricey. I find it mixes nice and thick, and that the banana flavor + say 2 cups of blueberries and some cocoa = a party in your mouth.

I wouldn't drink muscle milk or any sort of "mass gainer" personally, unless it's a cost effectiveness thing. Just use fruit. More vitamins and such. And generally speaking, whole foods > supplements, so try to eat nice and clean from lean proteins, good fats (everything but possibly trans, in balance), and fruits + vegetables. Starches (from whole grains and tubers and whatnot, preferably) after weight training only, ideally, imo.

And there's always milk. Lots and lots of milk. :D Any protein shake is improved by the addition of milk, generally speaking. Whey is significantly more disgusting in water. Milk + quality chocolate protein = fat free chocolate milk, with more protein than sugar. Fat free chocolate milk + (1 cup milk to 30g powder) chocolate protein = chocolate milk with evensies protein and carb.

Also, I would google Berardi's "Massive Eating" and "7 Habits" articles on nutrition. Gaining size is a simple matter of calories in > calories out. But, getting plenty of protein, and eating nice and clean (and healthy) surely won't hurt, and may even help, a lot. :)

Just remember, Creatine is NOT IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM A TYPE OF STEROID.

If you don't wanna take creatine, fine. But don't lump it with anabolic steroids. Its no more a steroid than protein is.
(Hint: red meat...FULL of creatine)

I have a question myself, I have olympia nutrition's xplosive mass protein shake, when I mix it with water there are these crystals that don't dissolve, is that how thats supposed to be?

hey, i personally like to use gnc`s pro performance mass xxx, its a great tasting and full of calories and protein to make sure you get maximum gains from your workouts . cheers. :)

Whey protein taken with musashi creatine and glutamine

creatine is stored in you body as energy to be used and is not a steroid. The more creatine you have in your body the more short intensed exercise energy you will have to use without feeling fatigue as fast as usuall.

Glutamine helps recovery and digestive system

you need to try these out before you disagree!!!

anthony, please cite your source(s) of scientific research that showed L-glutamine was of any benefit to an athlete.

EVERYTHING I have read showed it gets mostly destroyed by the gut, and those that did benefit from glutamine peptides (not the same as L-glutamine powder) where AIDS, Cancer patients, and burn victims.

I'm a douche? You are the one that just posted 6 URL's to glutamine marketing sites, and one URL to a .edu URL which only states glutamine can help endurance athletes IF they diminish their normal levels.

When I say 'cite' I mean I want a post to a scientifically conducted research study/medical study, NOT done by a supplement company, that showed proof that L-glutamine supplmentation helps with recovery and gains like you claimed.

By the way, if I was really a douche, you'd already be banned. All you do is run around here spouting 'advice' to down musashi creatine and a half dozen other useless supplements.

you don't even know what your talking about and most likely dont know what glutamine is. the sites i have posted show some scientific evidence of glutamine and its benefits.

if you think that glutamine really doesn't help.... why do you think most athletes take it.
i called you a douche because people like you who think protein shakes creatine glutamine and any other supplements are useless and all you need is a good diet? well noone cares because the fact is every professional athlete takes this stuff so stop trying to be smart and face the fact that supplements do help.

glutamine is a non essential amino acid because it is made by the liver. the reason why athletes supplement this amino acid is because the body doesn't make enough glutamine under stressed exercise and is depleted and needs to be replaced to help remove acid, speed up muscle recovery and remove aching and many more things.

I def believe in whey but i would suggest picking up some maltodextrine and dextrose. This way you can adjust the different amount of calories /carbs you get in your PW drink. When you buy a weight gainer, you basicall are stuck with the ratios they give you.

I really like Myofusion, they sell it on Bodybuilding.com you can get a big tub for pretty cheap. They have some really great flavors. It is definitely one of the better tasting proteins out there. My boyfriend swears by this protein, and it has helped him put on more muscle mass.

I have to agree with you Anthony. I played college soccer and I swore by glutamine. I still put it in my protein shakes daily. I'd be extremely sore after workouts if I wasn't taking glutamine after my lifting sessions.

Hello there. Instead of making a new thread I'll just post here instead.

Im male 20 years old and live in the UK. Im interested in buying protein shakes to build muscle, Im looking to buy it from the internet which would be cheaper than buying it instore but dont know which product to get.

What im looking for would be a cheap big protein shake tub.
