Hi guys!

I have been starting to exercise lately because I'm tired of being fat, feeling terrible, and so far I've lost 1-2 pounds. But it seems to stay around 310-312, I can't seem to get it to below that. I haven't exercised as much as I am now for a long time, and even what I'm doing now is just walking about 30 minutes a day for 3 days a week. I walked a mile a few days ago, but almost fainted. As far as losing it fast, do I need to use machinery or can I just keep walking? What will work best for me? I'm 17 years old, 310 pounds and I have a BMI of 42.

Thank you guys! =)

Hats off to you!

It's a great thing that you're finally taking control of your life, of your health. A conscious decision to do so is the first step to turning over a new leaf.

But please, you have to stop feeling terrible. I'm sure you're a wonderful person, and being 310-pounds does not make you any less of an amazing individual.

You're also gonna have to start incorporating a proper diet into your weight loss program. Start by drinking a lot of water. But DO NOT start starving yourself. If you do, your body, as a reaction will start to slow down its calorie-burning (read: metabolism) process and it will be a step back to your progress.

That's just my 2-cents.

All the best to you, my friend.

Keep me posted on your progress.

I think you first need to really think about eatting a healthy diet. At that weight the pounds should start to come off simply by cutting out some of your bad eatting habits. Then start with small exercising like walking each day and build up. Good luck! :)

hey glh,
i'm 332pounds so i know where your coming from. i also got tired of it all and decided to start working out and eating right, and now have been doing so for afew weeks. i think your off to a great start by walking 30mins three times a week. i think also just start watching the foods you eat, ie less junk food and more healthy stuff. there's lots of info in the stickies about where to begin with nutrition and exercise so that can help. when it comes to exercise it's all upto whats comfortable with you, every time just try and do a little better than the last whether its by 1min at a time or more and slowly you'll start to see your managing to do longer exercise sessions.

your definitely in the right place because everyone on here is very supportive. all the best with the weightloss xoxo

forget about exercise for a second, and seriously look at the diet, Log everything at fitday.com and try and find what parts of the day and what foods have the most calories that you can comfortably eliminate.
Once you are eating less calories than you are using then you will loose weight. This is a fact. Then you can think about doing exercise to enhance that.
Exercise alone will not make you loose weight if you are eating too much.
Good on you for making the choice, you are younger than i was when i started and i only wish id done it when i was younger! :D
In all seriousness, read the sticky threads under 'newbies' and check out the links in my sig for more info.
YOU CAN DO ITTT!!

.

If one's body has existing "large amount" of extra body weight, some great exercises are:

- Structured exercise within a pool.
- Swimming - even "good old dog paddle" movement
- Arms push / pull type exercises (while sitting on bum).
- Legs push / pull exercises (while sitting on bum).
- Note: Too much walking is bad on back and knees.
- Note Too much stationary bike is bad on back and knees as well.

Go with "inside pool" activities and with some push / pull on limbs (while sitting on bum) exercises as well.

When I turned 24, I weighed 378. When I turned 25 I weighed 252. The only exercise I did during this time was walking. Yes, I made major changes in my diet, but I walked, and I mean religiously. I didn't miss a day. You're on the right track...just keep up the good work!

Congratulations on wanting to take back your health!

Lots of great advice here.

Like a few others, I'd recommend looking at your diet in combination with your exercise.

Try adding as many fruits and veggies into your diet as possible. Drink water. That alone will start shedding some pounds.

Regarding the exercising, I'd start with walking and increase the amount you walk regularly as you get used to it and feel better. You've gotta start somewhere and getting out and doing it regularly is a great start. When you drop some more weight I'd recommend starting with some resistance exercises that will build up some muscle. But I'd wait on that until you're good on the regular walking, feeling better and drop a little more weight from making adjustments in your diet.

Good luck!

Just wanted to say what a great start you've made with the walking!!

spike99 has some great suggestions too.

Having been 15 stone 11 years ago I started off with swimming and that's when my pounds started falling off.

best of luck to you
