Aching arms

Hi,

I'm new to this forum so i hope i'm writing this in the right place! I do pole dancing and have done for about a year now. However last year just before xmas my arms were hurting sooo much from pole dancing which doesn't usually happen. I stopped pole dancing for awbout a month as i was busy over christmas and took it up again at the end of last week. My arms have begun aching again and this was after even th smallest bit of exercise. i'm really cnfused and frustrated. i even woke up in the middle of the night because they were aching so much. i'm not sure what to do, i can barely practice and i'm taking part in a competition on thursday.

Does anyone know what this is? i don't think it's overexercise as it occured before i'd even done much. WHat can i do to prevent/fix this. It's so painful. my arms are throbbing even as i type and i only lifted myself upside down twice today. It's not the normal aching you get from exercise.

Any advice much appreciated, thanks

Hmmm. Does this mean that your a stripper or is this a form of exercise? Repetitive incorrect form can cause tendonitis. I have had tendonitis for months and it gets worse with heavy training. Rest helps but that isn't what you want to hear if this is how you living or um, do a competition?!

Off topic but do you wear clothes of some sort while doing this pole dancing?

Lol no, i'm not stripper i do it for exercise, usually about 8-9 hours a week. my university is having a talent competition and me and a friend are doing a pole routine, it's not all about strippping there is some talent involved hehe. i shall look tendonitis up, does it go away eventually??? does that mean i'm doing it incorrectly?

With rest and recuperation it can subside. I have eased up on bicep weight lately and it has gotten better but it has taken a long time.

ahh that's so annoying, i've read a bit about it and it sounds quite like that. i might go to the docs. i really don't want to do reduce the amount of exercse i'm doing but i guess i'll have to... but not until i finish the competition... and a routine in feb (which is in a strip club) haha

Hi, I feel your pain. I'm a pole dancer too....no not a stripper LOL. This is a very common complaint for polers. Its will happen during the first week or so...depending on how often you pole. There should never be any sharp pain. Aching and stiffness happens.
A lot of stress is placed on your shoulders, elbows and wrist. Because pole dance its so demanding on the limbs proper form is a must! If you performing a spin or inverting remember to ALWAYs keep your shoulders back and down. By keeping the shoulder engaged you will prevent injury that can result from just "hanging" from the arm.
