Title: Rather Complex...

Does it matter what you eat, as long as you stay within your Calorie range during cutting? I know you need to keep up good nutrition to keep from burning Muscle, but as long as you're keeping everything else good, would sweets cause fat storage even if your overall Calories were good?

If all you are eating are sweets, you will not be providing your body with the nutrition it needs to grow.
Say you have a piece of cake for lunch (which say amounts to the same amount of calories as the turkey sandwich and protein shake you normally have). Since the cake is all carbs your body will send all the energy it gets from the cake into your bloodstream relatively quickly. Since all the energy will be in the bloodstream at the same time, your body might not be able to use all of it and will store some of it as fat. A little later, you will be hungry because your body is now out of energy (it stored it as fat and now cannot easily access it). If you don't eat, you will be hungry and your body will find easier sources of energy from your muscles than from the cake fat it just stored. If you do eat, you will be eating more calories than you would have had for lunch and you'll put on weight. Either way, it's not a good situation.
Eating the well balanced lunch would have prevented this because your body would not send all the energy from the food into the bloodstream at the same time (protein goes in slower than carbs for example).
