Title: I Can't Stop And Don't Know How To Maintain...HELP!!!

I am 18 years old, 5' 4", and now weigh about 116 lbs. At my heaviest I weighed 174 lbs., but I made up my mind one day to end the "fat me", and now I am the "thinner me." I get a lot of compliments about how good I look now and everything, but I can not stop obsessing about my weight and what i eat. My typical day of eating is: bfst, a bowl of cereal(Kashi) w/ 1/2 c. soy milk(non-fat) OR hot oatmeal made with soy milk OR hot cream of wheat made with soy milk. lunch: fat-free yogurt and 1/2 c. fat free cottage cheese OR a piece of fruit and fat free cottage cheese OR a sandwich. dinner: a meal with chicken or tuna, a vegetable, and maybe some bread. I hardly snack and when I do it is like a piece of fruit or air popped popcorn w/o butter or something wimpy like that. I am always hungry and I am SURE that I don't eat enough calories a day, but I can't eat more or i feel so guilty. How many calories a day should I be eating to maintain the weight I am at??? Also, I run for exercise and also do cardio-tapes on the days that I don't run. I usually run two days and take a day off and do strength training, and then run two days, then take a day off to do strength training and continue that cycle. When I run it is for about 4.2 miles and it takes me about an hour. when i do strength training i do it for about an hour also. I am going to be returning to college in the fall and will have less time to exercise then I do now...in order to maintain my fitness level and weight, how much should I cut back on my exercise, what should I do, how often, and how intense??? also, at school i find it is easier to eat then it is at home becuase there the meals are already prepared for you...so if I eat for example, a prepared turkey and cheese wrap, or eggsalad sandwich, or tuna wrap, or chicken, or peanut butter and jelly, is that ok?...i am afraid the food is going to sabatage everything....what should i eat and what should i avoid eating??? please please please write me back...i am in desperate need of some guidance...i just don't want all my hard work to go to waste and i DON'T want to gain any of the weight back!!!! HELP!!!!!!!

There's no set amount you should be having... try upping your Calorie intake by 200 Cals a week. When you start to see weight gain, take it down a bit. This would be the most effective way to find your maintenance level. As an estimate, I'd probably say it's somewhere around 2200-2500 Cals.

You sound very normal and should probably just relax. one problem that I see is that you should really be spreading your meals out (between 4 - 7 balanced meals a day). This will help you with your hunger and also keep your metabolism and body working.

    I understand where you are
coming from. There is more to
    life than worrying about your
    weight and thinking about
    food. If you eat enough
    healthy food (what your body
asks for) than you won't think
    about food.
