Title: Ketostix!!!!! Please Help I am trying to loose weight so I have cut my carbs drastically, now I think that I may not get enough. I was reading that you can use ketostix to check if you are getting enough carbs or if you are breaking down muscle for energy by by dipping the sticks in your urine to check for Ketones. Why does everyone associate cutting Carbs with losing weight?? This really confuses me. 60-65% of your total calorie intake should be from Carbs! Carbs are the best source of energy for your body to use while it builds muscle, and carries out it's regular body functions. The only time you should cut Carbs is 2-3 hours before bed, because at that time they'll get digested slower (well... everything gets digested slower at that time, but Carbs digest slow even at other times), and therefore they get stored as extra fat. Any other time of day, you need TONS of Carbs. Even though you shouldn't over do it on Carbs 2-3 hours before bed, you should definately still eat something during that time, like some meat or milk or nuts. Please Help Adrian you are correct in that carbs are good and you should try not to have them before going to bed,but for somebody trying to loose weight you want to have just enough carbs so that you have energy for the whole day. If you have too many the rest will be stored away as fat. If you don't get enough then your body breaks down muscles for the energy (which you don't want) So by using Ketostix you keep reducing your carbs untill you detect a change in color then you increase the carbs slightly till the sticks don't change color. This way you will get just enough to last you the whole day and your body will not have extra to turn to fat.
