Title: Need Advice On Proper Dieting Hi there, I just recently within the last 3 months changed my eating habits and activity level and have lost 30 pounds of fat since February. I eat 6 times a day in small portions and workout 4 times a week. My workout consists of currently 45 Minutes on the treadmill increasing the time by 5 minutes every 2 weeks. I also do 30 minutes of Weightlifting, alternating upper body 1 day and lower body (legs) the next. I also lowered my calorie intake down to no more than 1700 calories per day with lowfat foods. My question is should I really need to lower my calories down to this level or will the excercise and proper foods be enough to effectively lose fat? I fear that I may also be losing muscle at the same time. Name: Tim Date: May. 24th, 2001 Title: Re: Need Advice On Proper Dieting Congratulations on the weight loss so far! Everybody is different. Some can lose weight at 3000 calories while other it takes 1500. Currently I am losing fat at 2500 calories. Formulas from textbooks only provide a rough guideline to follow. What worked for me was this: I would make up a diet and follow it for a week and see if my weight changed. If the weight did not change, this was the amount of calories I can consume without losing/gaining weight. From there I would lower, raise the totals depending on my goals. If you are worried about losing muscle, make sure you eat alot of foods high in protein. Try and aim for 1-2 pounds weight loss a week. This will limit the amount of muscle you burn. Hope this helps. ps. If you decide to use my suggestion, weigh yourself in the morning after you have excreted.
