Title: Peanut Butter Is this good for me? I eat the low-fat version of Jif, and I really love it. Also, I am vegan, so peanut butter is always a good choice for lunch to get my protein. Is peanut butter our friend or our enemy? Thanks. Although fattening it is a great source of protein. I believe peanut butter is our friend!! However, when I looked at the nutrition labels for 'regular' and 'low-fat' peanut butter, I noticed there's really only about a 2g per serving difference, and only 0.5g of that is taken from saturated fat! This means that you're still intaking about the same amount of calories that you'd be taking in with regular peanut butter (about 14 calories less per serving). If you're looking for a way around this, go out and get yourself some NATURAL peanut butter, the type with the fat on the top that you have to mix in. Not only does natural peanut butter have almost NO saturated and polyunsaturated fats, it's RICH with protein and monounsaturated fat (the good kind). That means it'll help your muscles repair themselves AND give you more energy in the weight room! It's also got a pretty good glycemic index, which means it'll keep you less hungry for longer.
