Our bodies need carbs and fats. We just have to watch the fat we take in or I do anyway. Everyone is different. As far as the carb diet it's just another fad diet. Try cutting back on the calories and exercise. Denise Austin just came out with a new book about getting fit and staying after 40, you might want to check it out or her site. You can get the weight off and still enjoy food, just more healthy foods!

    Linda,

I've got another 10 years on you - Girl - and I certainly can relate.
I was putting on pounds every year and after age 30, oh boy was it hard to remove that fat.
What is working for me now, and has for the past 4 1/2 years, is a combination of exercise (treadmill and weights at the gym), good diet of home cooked food that is low in fat and light on meat of any kind, and to keep my energy up and burn fat I take the best quality Vitamins on the market, I swear by Digestive Enzymes (they help me fully break down the food I eat so it doesn't stick on my bones as fat and undigested matter which eventually turns in to fat), a Super Food (I find I don't desire to eat high fat and rich/sugar loaded food because the Super Food I take keeps me feeling satiated, so no binges or cravings - chocolate has always been my downfall), plus I take all natural supplements for muscle tone/strength and Calcium - really important being a woman over 40. Really important!
Anyway, that's what has worked for me after battling with high body fat until I turned 45. I decided then I just didn't want to go that way any longer and it was time to address the problem.
Now I'm lean, toned, have incredible energy, never get sick because my body is totally strong and well, and I feel better than I did 25 years ago.
I'd love to chat with you more about this if you have time.
    Whatever you do, good luck.
    Albertine
