Title: Teens And Weight I have a sixteen year old daughter, she is 5"4 and 161 lbs. She wants so badly to be thin, or at the very least slim, she has given up meat, and lost a few pounds after doing that a year ago, but she she still has what I refer to as "baby fat", so many of her friends developed before she did, and although they eat the same diet as she does, they are so much thinner. She has always been a little chunky, but she is severly serious about toning up and losing weight, she wants a diet and excersize program that she can really stick too, but I don't want her to hurt herself in the process. She has a summer job at a camp, and is convinced that she is gonna loose some weight by then, but I want the best deit and excersize possible for her so that maybe her self-esteem might rise a little, and so she isn't so embarrassed. She is the sweetest girl, and very pretty too, but she needs to shed some weight. Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks. Eat very healthy. This is a perfect time for the both of you to get out and walk several times a week together. If you can't go to a gym, maybe you could get some type of cardio tapes and do them together. I think if you did this with her it would really help her more. I know it's easier for me to lose weight if I have someone pushing me a long. Whatever you decide don't let weight loss become the only thing she thinks about. She young and needs to enjoy these years. I think some young girls go to far with wanting to lose weight because they see so many slim girls on tv. I wish the best to you both!!!!! Also, many community centers allow teens supervised time to use the gym and have special aerobic classes for them. This provides and atmosphere where they can be athletic without competition, and where they do not necessarily have to be "athletes". Keep an eye on her as well, keep the lines of communication open. Too many girls today have eating disorders that threaten their health. Emphasize all the things she does well, tell her she's beautiful, take her to get her nails done and other stuff like that. And finally practice what you preach and set a good example of healthy eating and exercise habits yourself. Ther are so many parents in your position, I'm sure you have support from your friends and the community. Good luck to you and your daughter!!
