Title: Losing My Period Is it dangerous to not have your period? Mine has gotten lighter and shorter as I've increasingly worked out and cut out fat. I do have low body fat percentage, but is that such a bad thing? I feel fine. Lots of energy and what not. Should I worry? You will lose a tremendous amount of bone mineral while you are not producing estrogen. This will cause you to have high fracture risk, especially later in life, but also will increase your current risk of stress fracture. By losing your period, your body has plainly decided that you do not have enough resources to support reproduction. This is NOT good, whether you want to become pregnant or not. Lower is not better when it comes to body fta...there is a lower threshold that you should not go under...losing your period is a classic sign that you have crossed that dangerous threshold. Ok. Good luck :-) Date: Mar. 9th, 2001 Title: Re: Losing My Period It is not by any means normal to stop menstruating. It is commonly caused by overexercise but that does NOT make it normal.
