Title: How Many Calories To Sustain 1 Pound?

When I was in college I had a nutrition class that told me how many calories the body needs a day to sustain 1 pound. I forgot how many it is. Does anyone know?

Actually, the previous answers are partially correct. 3500 calories is the equivalent energy content of one pound of bodyfat. In other words, in order to burn a pound of stored fat you need to burn an extra 3500 calories in a given time period.
