Title: Calories

Hi, i am a 5'1" 20 year old girl with a small frame... I need to loose about 10 to 15 lbs, but I am unsure of how many calories I need per day to accomplish this. What I've just started doing is eating 1800 calories per day (but I allow myself to eat all the raw veggies I want, like freebies), riding the elliptical trainer for 30 min/5 days a week(at a good, hard pace), and lifing weights 3 to 4 times per week. Do i need to bump my calorie intake down more, or is 1800 low enough? If it is, how long should it take to loose 10 lbs? How low can I go with my calorie intake and still remain healthy, plus be able to raise my calorie intake after I've lost the weight and not gain it back?

You do not need to lower your calories anymore. 1800 to 2000 is a good range for you. This amount will keep your metabolism humming right along. You are doing this the right way. The weight will come off slowly, but it will be fat, not water weight. if you are still having trouble losing, increse yur aroebic exercise to 45 minutes. At this rate you could lose 10 lbs. in about 4 months. After you have lost the weight, slowly increase your calories and see how your body reacts to this. You might only need 1800 calories a day to maintain your weight.

    Hi
I think that 1800 is a good amount of calories considering you are exercising frequently. I am dieting myself, and lost 14 pounds in 3 weeks by eating about a 1000 calories a day. Can I ask you what you eat each day? because I want to add more calories so my body doesn't think I'm starving ,and therefore work hard to keep my excess weight.
    Thanks!! and Good luck!

Hi, I'm not a professional, but have kept my weight at 115 for three years now (I'm 22 and 5"4) I think 1800 calories is good, but perhaps you should try to develop a lifestyle/eating plan that is 1600-2000 calories a day that you would adhere to forever. I think the only way to keep weight off for good is to have a lifestyle of eating and exercising that you really like and don't even think about the weight loss, it just comes naturally.

To lose ten more pounds, I think you may want to try running outside? It burns so many calories and can be really fun. Or if you are addicted to the elyptical, try going for an hour a few times a week and boost your overall calorie burn.

I am trying to become a professional distance runner and my coach has told me to lose ten more pounds. I've had some success, but have come to the realization that every calorie counts!!!
