It depends I think on if it is a pound of fat=3500 kcalories or a pound of muscle.

My understanding is that one gram of either muscle or carbohydrate contains 4 calories, and that one gram of fat contains 9 calories. Therefor one pound of fat contains 9 multiplied by 454 calories ( 4086 ). If you meant muscle then the answer would be 4 multiplied by 454 calories ( 1816 ). However this is an oversimplification in regard to your probable intent. For example, reducing caloric intake by 12,258 calories ( 3 multiplied by 4086 ) over a three week period will not result in a healthful loss of 3 pounds of fat during that period. The answer lies in a broad change in lifestyle including regular physical activity, meal planning, and learning to motivate yourself. I hope this helps.
