Title: Atkins Diet And Weight Trainig Hi, I'm 18 and have been weight training for 2 years. When I was young I was fat but through dieting (between 12 yrs and 16 yrs) I lost most of it, I take my weight training as seriously as I can, trying to eat sensibly and get enough protein. But the thing is, I still have a small gut, it annooys me cos it sticks out and is flabby. I didnt want to introduce too much cardio vas work into my routine for fear of losing some of the size I have gained. So, I decided to have a look at this atkins diet, to me it seems ok, lots of protein, fat for energy and losing weight. Is this the right type of diet to be on for what I want and if not, what am I best doing?? Thanx in advance. Here are my thoughts: if you follow a diet where you eat more fat than carbohydrates and do little aerobic (CV) work I think you're not really going go to lose the flabbiness that you're talking about. The muscles in the stomach are covered by a fat layer, and the more fat, the less you'll be able to see the muscles. You are interested in finding out more about the Atkins diet. Let me first explain the whole theory behind it. Your entire body is made up of proteins and your body depends on it to continue functioning. That is why often times Vegetarians in the long run begin experiencing medical problems, if they have not been supplementing with protein. Okay, back to the Atkins theory. If you are eating 20 or less Carbohydrates as Dr. Atkins suggests, then your body has not option but to resort to your fat as fuel for your body. Therefore, losing the flabbiness around your stomach and other areas of the body. The diet is a great way to lose weight quickly and effectively. But, I must warn you that you have to stick to the diet EXACTLY as it tells you to, or you will gain weight, for you will be knocked out of KETOSIS (constant fat burning). Also, when you feel that you have lost all the weight you wanted to lose, you can not just go back to eating all kinds of carbohydrates again, you must slowly bring in your carb intake and determine how many your body will take before starting to gain the weight back. Which of course you do not want. It is of course suggested that you continue to your work out program, you do not need to be concerned with doing MORE activity, for your body naturally will result to burning the fat, even without increased activity. One more thing, do not be discouraged with numbers on the scale. When on a high protein diet, you are losing body fat, but because you are increasing protein you will more than likely increase muscle and definition. So, of course muscle weighs more than fat. I suggest measuring your entire body the day before you start the program and if you can go to like GNC or a local gym and have your body fat tested. Good luck with your training. I am positive that if you stick to the diet exactly, you will lose weight. Even better, is to do the diet with healthy protein. Ex: Rather than bacon, use grilled chicken, rather than pure eggs, do egg whites, etc. Keep us posted on your results!!!
