Title: Where To Get...? Can someone please tell me from which articles of food do I get e.g proteins, fibre, and whatever other important elements there are that we get from different food??? What can I eat when I want to loose some weight? Can I eat anything, at all?? Name: Liisa Laamanen Date: Aug. 8th, 2000 Title: Re: Where To Get...? The body needs 6 essential nutrients: 1) Carbohydrates: there are 2 types of carbs; simple (fruits, jam, honey etc.) and complex (pasta, cereal, bread, veggies). Try to pick foods that seem more "natural" like whole grain bread instead of white (more fiber), fruit instead of fruit juice (more fiber), milk instead of ice cream (less fat) etc. 55-65% of the food you eat should be carbs 2) Protein: if you eat meat, you can count on getting all of the protein you need from it. To keep a lower fat diet, try eating lean meat. If you are a vegitarian, it is more difficult to obtain all the amino acids the body needs (that it can get easily from meat protein). Vegitarians needs to look into ways of ensuring that they are getting the protein they need. 10-15% of your diet should come from protein. 3) Fat: You need fat to survive. Without fat the body cannot properly transport fat-soluble vitamins A, D and E. Try to eat unsaturated fats and reduce saturated fats. 20-30% of your daily calories should come from fat 4)Vitamins: With a well balanced diet (see Canada Food Guide) you should get all the vitamins you need. 5)Minerals: Again you should get all of them from a well balanced diet. 6)Water: Always drink enough so that you are never thirsty. So there it is. By following the Canada Food Guide and eating a variety of foods, you should be able to meet the above guidelines without even having to think about it.
