I am overweight and my friend is very thin wanting to tone. You both should do some resistance training to build and maintain muscle tone, but the amount of cardio that you should do, and especially your diets, will vary considerably. You should list about how much you eat on an average day (no need to get scientific, estimations are fine), and what kind of physical activities you do. From there you can figure out what changes you need to make.
