Title: Vegetarian & Muscle Building I have been a vegetarian for 10 years. I eat a very well-balanced diet and cook all of my meals fresh. I don't have any weight to lose, but would like to change my overall body composition and become more muscular. The problem is, after 12 months of deligent weight training, I have not put on any size. I have been told that this is because I am not eating ANIMAL protein. BTW, I am 130 lbs and eat approx. 80 grams of vegatable protein a day...if that helps. A paltry 80 grams of INCOMPLETE vegetable protein isn't going to cut it. When I want to put on weight I eat at least 150grams more than my own bodyweight. And I make sure that I get enough calories as well. You need more calories. You need more protein and when I say complete protein for a vegetarian that means milk products, eggs, and soybean products. but pile on the protein Name: The Ric Date: Feb. 15th, 2000 Title: Re: Vegetarian & Muscle Building as a trainer and bodybuilder, I have a hard time believing that you can, as a woman, put on muscle without animal protein. I eat a lot of chicken, eggwhites and fish and I feel without it, I would not make my muscular gains that I have managed to do. I have no problem eating like a vegan but I have done so and not felt the same tightness and muscularity as I do when eating protein Name: janet vachon Date: Feb. 16th, 2000 Title: Re: Vegetarian & Muscle Building Animal protein is not necessary for muscle growth. Look at Martina Navratilova, Surya bonaly, Romy Karz, Sally Hibberd, Debbie Lawrence, Kathy Johnson, and Spice Williams to name a few. All are vegetarians or vegans. There are quite afew sites out there that cater to veggies. Start at vegsource.com and vrg.org they may have a few links! Either way, you definitely need to eat more protein (ie, AT LEAST 130 grams each and every day). Make sure you are also getting good amounts of complex carbs, and essential fatty acids (omega 3 and omega 6). Laura wrote: > I have been a vegetarian for 10 years.
