Try to do as many as you can at one go (8 or 10), this is one set, then take rest for sometime, say 30-45 secs, then do another set of as many repeatation as you can, rest again. try doing 5 such sets. Gradually try to increase 2 to 3 repeatations every set every 7 to 10 days. After you achieve 20 - 25 repeatations per set you can put some kind of weight on your back, close to your neck, to add resistence.

Hey Joe, Dont listen to Guatam what you need to do is two to three sets of push ups (reps at 8-10) every day.

Unfortunately, you won't see further progress after a few days.

Joseph, try either of the aforementioned routines and decide which is working for you. What worked best of all for me though was having people watching me while I was doing push ups. Try it, you can always do more than you think you can when you let pride take over. Over a few weeks you can get from zero to 50 in one rep - I did (I'm female) so you can.
