Title: Dr. Atkin's Diet ( Ketogenic Dieting)

Hi,
I noticed that there always seems to be a few postings asking about ketogenic dieting, or what I refer to as the Atkin's diet. I am now in day 9 of the Induction diet portion of this program. This is my second attempt at the diet. I am hoping I can give some information that may help others to start and stick with this diet.
On my first trial with the diet, I lasted 6 miserable days. I could tell I was losing weight because my clothes fit more comfortably, but I was unbelievably tired. I had read Atkins' New Diet Revolution and tried starting the diet while only taking a multi-vitamin. This was a big mistake. I had muscle cramps, back aches, and fatigue like I had never felt, so I quit the diet.
I spent the next week purchasing the proper supplements and taking them a week prior to starting the diet again. My personal recommendations on what supplements to get are as follows, ( but note these are the ones that work for ME, everyone is different): a good multi-vitamin with a complete anti-oxidant group, a B complex vitamin ( which i take 3 times a day), the Atkin's Dieters Advantage ( which I have found at GNC and my local grocery), potassium supplements ( very important in ridding yourself of muscle cramps), vitamin E, chromium picolinate ( this is important in metabolizing fat into energy), and omega 3-6-9 fatty acid. If you chose not to purchase the Atkins supplements , at least buy a supplement called L-Carnitine, it is essential in metabolizing fat.
I found that starting these supplements and then beginning the diet made me feel 100% better. I have not been suffering throught these last nine days and my clothes are fitting better and a lot of the old aches and pains are gone. If you read the book, you will notice Dr. Atkins refers to abundant amounts of energy you are supposed to feel after a few days. After speaking to quite a few people , i have found this to be rare. However, after supplementing I feel a bit more energetic, but i am also incorporating daily exercise in the program this time.
I hope this information is helpful if some of you have found this diet hard to stick with. Please feel free to e-mail me about the diet.
Good Luck, Tiffaney

    Hi Tiffaney,

I think you had given some excellent insights to the diet. I can understand the discomfort of a diet gone wrong. When you mentioned the first set of symptoms you experienced, that was a warning that you were not treating your body well.

In your posting about L-Carnitine, it is a good supplement to take--helps suppress the appetite. Vitamist Slendermist has L-Carnitine in a spray. You may read more about these products at www.mybsns.com/karemor/tsc or www.theservicecenter.com/vitamist.

I was recently on a weightloss program called Shape-Up and lost 9 pounds in two weeks. It did not feel like I was on a diet. It was that simple.

It was great. I got off the diet and I did not gain anything back. It is a wonderful feeling.

I would be delighted to answer any questions that you may have. If you still have a few more pounds to lose, I strongly recommend the Shape-Up program. There is no starving involved and you are getting all your vitamins. And get this--the vitamins come in sprays--spray into your mouth and you will get them in your body in about 30 seconds!

Very efficient delivery of nutrients to one's body.

There is no federal mandate to subject dietary supplements for approval by the FDA. None, not even yours. After all who wants a prescription to buy vitamin C.

Junk is junk and make your excuses but the FDA also allows you to pawn your crap for 5 years until enough deaths or illnesses are connected to it. See my newsletter about Lupron.
