Title:
CarbsWhat is a healthy carb allowance per day? I am female, 52, weigh about 105, 5'4". I run/walk about 2 1/2 to 3 miles a day and do weight training also. I work out early in the
AM and again in the PM.
Lately I have had trouble keeping my weight at 102-105. Over 105, I am sluggish and take a half day to "wake up." My diet is mostly vegiterian...I rarely eat meat, and if I do, it is turkey or fish..and then not much. I eat yogurt, Tofu, egg whites, beans and nuts for protien, along with plenty of leafy vegies and broccili, squash, tomatoes, etc, as well as several servings a day of fruit, mainly apples and grapes. My salads are without any dressing...I like the taste of the greens, and my veggies are steamed and without butter. I do have some fat intake, but it is limited. I take multivitamines as well as B, C, Calcium. I drink at least a gallon of water a day....no colas or tea or other types of drinks. No juices. No sugar....occasionally a bit or two of a cookie...but that's it...and ice cream/yogurt with no added sugar and low fat....
Lately I have read a lot about consuming too many carbs
and perhaps my body metobilism is changing and I need to restucture what I am doing...I have forgotten most of what I used to know about carbs (count, types of foods to eat as well as to avoid or minimize.....) Also, "mixing" foods...
for example, for breakfast I will have 2 slices of Ezekial bread with low fat (yogurt blend) "butter", an egg white and a couple of cups of coffee, or a 1/2 muffin with whole grain flour, and fructose for sweetner. Lunch....salad and/or a "veggie" burger patti with cheese or perhaps salsa.....perhaps sprouts...and dinner pretty much like lunch....snacks include nuts/tofu/fruit....but not a lot....
So what could be wrong? Please direct me on carb intake and "mixing"......This is facinating to me anyway....but when I can keep myself within a good weight range for my self, my mind as well as my body perform a lot better...just a small variance can really drag me down...so what can you advise?
Thanks!
Marie

Eat things with carbs at separate meals from things without carbs. Thats a great start. No junk and plenty of clean water. Boom. Youre there.
