Title: Get Me Off Sugar!! I am addicted to sweets and want to know how to break the vicious cycle. I'm sick of telling myself o.k. no desserts for a week, because it never happens! Desperately need advice because I can't break the habit. Weight is 5"5 and 126, so not too bad, but need to be much healthier. Thanks in advance! What I do is, first of all, I eliminate the temptations. If you don't buy the sweet stuff and bring it into your home, then it won't be there when you get that craving. It takes about 20 minutes for a strong craving to go away, and unless you are truly hungry, then you can outlast the craving. Also, it takes about a month to break a habit. You can train your tastebuds, just like you train your body, to break that sugar habit. Try cutting down on sweet things and bread products. Eat protein and vegetable instead. Also, don't deny yourself. When you have a terribly strong sugar craving and you just gotta have it (trust me, I know what those are like!), then make a better choice (fat free cookies instead of Chips Ahoy!, or honey sweetened cereal instead of Crunch & Munch, frozen yogurt instead of ice cream). Little things like that will help you satisfy your craving without causing you to have to purchase a new wardrobe anytime soon. Secret: If you like cookies, you'll love Quaker Crispy Rice Cakes! They are awesome, you can have 20 of them for the same amount of calories as is in two regular cookies; so eat your heart out! I tend to ramble. I'm sorry if I took more time than you had. I just wanted to let you know of some things that may help you out, and maybe you can break your sugar habit, too; or at least keep it on a leash!!! Don't feel bad, though. You're not the only sugar-holic! x Name: katie Date: Jun. 21st, 1999 Title: Re: Get Me Off Sugar!! start eating so much good clean food you dont have time and if you crave eat something good. One of the greatest helps for me was to have a buddy to check in with on a regular basis for about the first month. I know it may sound juvenile - but I understand the need - and those who don't have the addiction don't understand. Forgive me Don, but it's not "simple." Something else that really helps me and what I think is the key - is to find that thing in your life that you love more than sugar and try to focus on it's importance to you, knowing that ingesting sugar is going to ruin it for you. It took a long time for me to make the transition, because sugar was my "first love" for so long. You may think it crazy, but it really helps to talk to someone about it - often. Write anytime - I'd be glad to try to help. There is no simple answer that works for everyone - because your answer is inside you Kelli - you just have to do the work to find it! I wish you good luck and good health!
