They will not cause massive gains compared to non-usage, regardless of what you see in an *advertisement*. Make sure you read about it and get other peoples opinions on each supplement you decide to use. Most supplements will be safe for your age, except prohormones and ECA (hydroxycut, ripped fuel, stacker 2, etc). Some good beginning supplements most people overlook is a good multivitamin, whey protein and flax seed oil. Your body will require around 0.6-0.8 grams of protein/lb of body weight with resistance training. Whey protein is simply protein that can be used to increase your daily intake. Flax seed oil is a combination of essential fatty acids. You need these for various functions, most important to resistance training will be forming hormones (androgens are lipid based). Most people do not get enough good fats in their diets. Vitamins and minerals are used for various functions in your body. An example is that your muscle fiber contraction is regulated through calcium release. Obviously a multivitamin is important all the time. Keep in mind that all these supplements are optional, you can get all these through eatting a good varied diet. A better supplement would be a good book on training. Most young people have no idea how to train properly and they accomplish nothing because of this, not because they are not using supplements.
