Title: Cholesterol

Does anyone know about cholesterol? I am very active and have a VERY good diet but recently I had my Choles. taken and it was 272! The weekend before I had eaten very poorly because I was on vacation and I ate the day I had the test taken (but not a lot). Can one bad weekend make your choles. spike that much? I'm very worried, please let me know. Thanks

NO, one day can not make or break your cholesterol. Your results are VERY high. I do not know how old you are, but a lifetime of bad eating habits can make you have high cholesterol as well as Genetics. The first thing you must ask yourself is does anyone else in my family have hgih cholesterol? Then if they do , you must take corrective action in perscriptive form for best results or consult your doctor for a low cholesterol diet full of high soluble fibers ( OATMEAL) and whole grains as well as low cholesterol proteins , veggies, and Flax Seed Oils and powder. Most cholesterol comes from animal fats in form of full fat dairy, egg yolks and meats, especially shrimp, shellfish and fatty land animals.
Take a look at your diet. DO you eat a lot of fried foods? SOme places still fry with hydroginated oils which clog arteries, and cause body to make more cholesterol. Another culprit is full fat dairy, as in whole milk, ice creams, butter (if you need it for flavor, use vegetable oil spread that "does not " contain "hydroginated oil")and cheese. Shrimp and shellfish have more cholesterol than most meats such as chicken , lean pork, lean beef, etc. Fish is good , however, the omega fats in salmon and tuna for example, are very good for fighting bad cholesterol ( LDL)
Look on the labels at cholesterol content on foods, and consult your doctor about what supplements to take such as omega 3 oil, flax oil(or unprocessed flax seed), lipitor. Get your results for HDL and LDL level. LDL is bad, but if you have a good HDL, that is a good sign and might be making your overal score higher.
