Title: I Need Help Understanding A Couple Of Things.. Ok, here's the deal. My boyfriend and I live together, and a couple of days ago after getting his test results back we found out that he has type 2 diabetes. So....now we have to think about changing or diets and exercising more ( and to note, I am 35 pounds overwieght..5'3" 160lbs. He's 5'8" 134lbs.)ANYWAY! we are both looking at this in a really positive way, this is a chance for us to change our lifestyles for the better..so here's the " I don't understand" question.. Ikeep reading about this 40% carbs 40% proteing and 20% fat thing...how does that translate into grams?? I'm a moron when it comes to that stuff...so if I want to eat 1700 cals a day, and my boy friend needs to eat about 2200 a day and in his case 30/30/40.. i'm confused could someone please fill me in on how to break up how many carbs/protein and fat we need to eat at each meal.. thank you! If you want exact numbers, heres some math to follow Total calorie requirement: 2200 Carb calories (30%): 2200 x 0.3 = 660 grams of carbs: 660 / 4 = 165 protein calories (30%): 2200 x 0.3 = 660 grams of protein: 660 / 4 = 165 fat calories (40%): 2200 x 0.4 = 880 fat grams: 880 / 9 = 98 Note: 1g of carbs and protein is around 4 calories. 1g of fat is around 9 calories. I use it and it helps me track all my meals and calories and a ton of other food facts. Name: Joe Date: Jul. 12th, 2002 Title: Re: I Need Help Understanding A Couple Of Things.. HI... I would think that for right now, with having the diabetes, your boyfriend should just stick to the diet that his doctor has given him. Did he have the choice of diet or insulin? If so, and he chose the diet, he would have the same diet that my grandparents use, as they both have it as well. He can work out, but he will need to find someone who can really answer all of his questions about his workout sessions...as for you, I would think that just doing what others have said on this discussion board would do the trick...although, you and your boyfriend may need to eat different foods at different times a day. You will have to set up a schedule that will work for both of you. Definately talk to his doctor and find out what he says. Lee wrote: > Ok, here's the deal.
