Title: Caloric Intake Site?

Does anyone know of an accurate website to find out how many calories one should be taking in each day?

I've heard so many conflicting ideas and I really don't want to be taking in too little or too much.

Just in case someone is a guru at this...I'm 28, 5'10, 138 lbs and I'm trying to drop about 8lbs (not maintain).

Thanks!

It is not so much the calories you take in, but what you eat as part of your diet. What is your current daily nutrition regimen like? Also, what exercise do you do?

Well, I've been following a 40/30/30 plan nutrition wise (carbs/protein/fat). Around 1500 calories a day. I work out 4-5 days a week, about 1/2 to 45 min weights and 30 to 60 minutes cardio. I haven't dropped a pound (or body fat)in months, so several people have told me my calories are too low for what I am doing and I'm in a starvation mode, others have said that I am eating too many. Just trying to narrow in on what I'm doing wrong.

At 138 lbs for 5'10" and 28 years old, that is a great weight for your height and age. Why do you think you need to lose 8 lbs? Are you unhappy with how you look to yourself in the mirror? How did you come up with 8 lbs or do you just want to hit 130 lbs even? Two quick suggestions without knowing more about you or how you look: first, try cutting back on the carbs for a month - 1/2 the amount you are eating with cutting back about 1/4 of the fat as well. Next, if you do the weights and the cardio on the same day, try alternating days so that weights are on opposite days as the cardio.

Well, I look fine, but I've out grown most of my cloths (fat gain...body fat has gone up 6%) so I'm trying to get my body fat down and want to lose the weight as well as muscle gain (I'm trying just to maintain the muscle mass I have now...don't want to get any bigger). I take in about 150 carbs a day right now, when I went below 80 grams I got really bad headaches and was too fatigued to do the cardio that I do. I'm just thinking that my calories might be too low so I'm not getting any results. I'll try lowering the fat and see if that helps!

Also, what does seperating cardio and weights do? I lift 5 days a week and do cardio 5 days a week now. I lift a differnt muscle group every day (legs twice a week), chest/tri, back/bi, lastly shoulders. Abs 3 days a week. I would think that it would be very important to do cardio every day to lost body fat...but several people have told me to alternate it with weights and I don't understand why? Thanks!

When you do cardio and weights at the same time, you are taking the fat that you are burning and turning it into lean muscle mass. Since muscle weighs more than fat, it is possible when doing this to not lose the weight that you would normally think. I am 6'2", 178 lbs with 8.5 - 9.0% body fat (fluctuates every few days) and I only do weights 3 times per week with no cardio - to build mass, and do cardio 3 other days to help stay lean.
